Summary
The Early Childhood Teacher is a member of the Family Literacy Program team and is responsible for ensuring the safety and welfare of children and for providing safe and developmentally appropriate programs that are aligned with all relevant federal and state standards.
Essential Functions
- Use and implement Creative Curriculum.
- Assist with child assessments, data collection and reporting.
- Work with adult education instructors to develop ILA lessons corresponding to parent education lessons.
- Ensure that all children are always supervised and maintain the required adult to child ratio.
- Establish developmentally appropriate classroom routines.
- Build children’s self-esteem through positive guidance and nurturing.
- Communicate with parents and discuss their children’s development.
- Implement positive discipline.
- Observe children and make notes of progress and development.
- Promote literacy and early education.
- Provide a safe and secure environment where children feel comfortable.
- Provide age-appropriate experiences and activities for children, including storytelling, games, and songs.
- Integrate special needs children in a positive and respectful manner.
- Work independently with a room of up to 10 children.
Teamwork
- Participate with internal agency committees and teams, as well as relevant external partnerships.
- Follow agency protocols and processes for effective service delivery.
- Show leadership by offering expertise locally and regionally.
- All other duties as assigned by Director of Child and Family Programs.
Qualifications
- Has a CDA or early childhood education credential
- Knowledge in child development and early education theories and practices
- Knowledge of safe and appropriate activities for preschool children
- Experience supervising groups of young children
- Experience working with or supervising volunteers preferred
- Act 33/34, FBI clearance, mandated reporter training

Work Environment
- Full-Time, some evening work required.
- This position requires use of personal vehicle for local travel.
Physical Demands
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Work requires talking, listening, must have the ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, stoop/kneel/crouch for up to 2/3 or more of workday
