Sustainable Talent is looking for a seasoned Millwright/Welder to join our automotive manufacturing team specializing in die casting operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical equipment and systems, including die casting machines and associated tooling. The role involves a combination of mechanical aptitude, welding expertise, and precision in supporting production operations and minimizing downtime to support our client's growing team! This is a W-2 full-time Direct Hire position based in the Greater Louisville, KY area. Key Responsibilities:
- Install, maintain, and repair die casting machines, trim presses, cooling systems, conveyors, and related mechanical systems.
- Troubleshoot mechanical faults on hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems associated with die casting equipment.
- Perform MIG, TIG, and stick welding on die casting tool steels (H11 or H13), stainless steel, and aluminum components used in die casting processes.
- Lifting and rigging of components greater than 100 tons
- Fabricate and modify machine parts, fixtures, and guards as required for production needs.
- Align and balance rotating equipment, such as pumps, motors, and fans.
- Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and equipment manuals to determine proper work procedures.
- Assist in the installation and commissioning of new die casting equipment and support systems.
- Conduct routine and preventive maintenance inspections on casting and finishing equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, repairs, and equipment modifications.
- Comply with all safety policies and procedures including lockout/tagout, PPE usage, and safe welding practices.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a recognized Millwright and/or Welding apprenticeship program or equivalent Red Seal certification.
- 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably within die casting or automotive sectors.
- Licensed and experienced operating a forklift, scissor lift, and JLG.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and welding techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and fabrication drawings.
- Experience with 5S practices.
- Proficient in various welding techniques, including MIG, TIG, and stick.
- Ability to operate machine shop equipment (e.g., grinders, lathes, drills, saws)
- Ability to work independently and cros functionally in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs., work at heights, and in confined spaces as required.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, or overtime as production demands.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with high-pressure die casting machines (e.g., Bühler, Toshiba, Frech).
- Familiarity with PLC-controlled equipment and basic electrical troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement practices.
