Job Title: Lower School Assistant Teacher

Interim assignments available during 2025-2026 school year, the role of Lower School Assistant Teachers varies with the particular grade assignment. In general, Assistant Teachers are responsible for classroom management, small group work, and other instructional tasks. Assistants are respected members of grade level teams and are to act professionally at all times. Good judgment and confidentiality about all school matters are expected. It is expected that individuals in Assistant Teacher positions will take pride in their work and exhibit their personal best performance in all areas.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
1. Transmit materials around campus at the Teacher’s direction. Keep a running list of what needs to be done daily, and prioritize tasks at the direction of the Teacher.
2. Prepare materials as instructed by the Teacher within the time frame expected.
3. Maintain classroom materials in good order and in appropriate areas.
4. Learn the curriculum to assist students with questions and follow-up grading or small group/tutorial instruction.
5. Decorate bulletin boards, hallways, and doors with materials and directions for placement by the Teachers.
Other Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
1. Engage and supervise when a lesson is being taught in the class room.
2. Check-in with teachers to discuss expectations before beginning to grade anything. All grading that goes home reflects the mission statement of the school, and needs to be entirely accurate and very neat.
3. Use established grade-level lunch rules. Assistants attentively watch students in the dining hall to make sure they are complying with the expectations. Assistants will enforce established routines for student seating, cleanup and dismissal.
4. Understand established grade-level recess rules, Assistants attentively watch students during recess, refraining from standing near or visiting with other teachers. Assistants will help supervise dismissal, classroom line-up and hand-washing routines at the end of recess.
5. Understand established school rules; Assistants arrive on time and attentively watch students and cars at morning carpool, helping the directors of traffic to ensure everyone’s safety.
6. Take the initiative to learn and use school technology. All teachers and assistants will use the school’s technology for only educational purposes or correspondence while on campus.
7. Substitute for the Teacher, as needed. Additional remuneration is given for substituting. The Teacher will prepare the plans for any absence.
8. Attend All-School faculty meetings, as requested.
9. Read and become familiar with the Student Parent Handbook and the Faculty Handbook.
10. Support school activities with enthusiasm and attendance
