Shepherd Village is currently accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of COOK1T. You will work as part of a team to plan and facilitate food production in the main kitchen by preparing nutritious meals and snacks for the Residents of Shepherd Village, in accordance with Long-term Care and Retirement legislation, Public Health regulations, and other applicable standards. 

What You Will Work On 

Reporting to the Supervisor, Food Services, the successful applicant will be expected to represent Shepherd Village in a courteous and professional manner, while maintaining amicable relationships with staff, Residents and their families, in keeping with our Corporate Values. 

How You’ll Create Impact 

  • Ensure Canada’s Food Guide requirements are met as well as Ministry of Health and Long Term Care compliance standards
  • Preparing and serving menu items in accordance with MOHLTC standards, Public Health Regulations and Dietary Department policies and procedures
  • Direct the flow of meal service and meet the time schedule for service of meals and nourishments
  • Assist with catering production and set-up of special functions and major holiday events(may require shift hours to be adjusted to accommodate event)
  • Ensure correct product has placed in the thawing fridge to accommodate production for the next three days
  • Rotate stock, cover, label, date and store properly
  • Audit food service areas to ensure compliance and food presentation policies
  • Provide guidance to co-workers regarding the receiving and storing of food supplies for compliances with MOHLTC, Public Health & Department standards, policies & procedures
  • Complete start-up inspections
  • Keep work area clean.

What Are Your Skills and Experience 

  • Grade 12 education and Red Seal Certificate preferred and/or in progress
  • Seven (7) years previous experience in large quantity food preparation experience, preferably from the hospitality (Hotel, Restaurant, Golf Club) setting
  • Experience in large function catering is an asset
  • Successful completion or current enrolment in Food Service Worker training program
  • Effectively communicate in English with the internal stakeholders including verbal, reading and writing as well as accurately follow the instructions
  • Must be able to increase/decrease recipe yields to meet the needs of facility
  • Flexible and adaptable to change with schedules, work environment and assignments
  • Physically capable of safely lifting and transferring hot heavy objects and standing for the majority of the shift
