About the Department
The purpose of this position is to operate and maintain trucks and heavy equipment. This is accomplished by hauling blacktop, salt, dirt, and stone; plowing snow; performing routine maintenance on all vehicles; and ensuring that all duties are performed in a timely and effective manner. Other duties include patching streets; paving sidewalks; performing concrete work; meter checking; welding metals; performing sewer work; and executing any needed tasks that arise.
Position Duties
Drives dump truck by picking up blacktop; driving back to paver; removing snow from streets; hauling stone from dump sites and residential properties; and collecting leaves from industrial and residential properties.
Performs concrete and storm sewer work by repairing curbs and storm sewers; driving the vactor truck; cleaning of inlets; and repairing broken or stolen inlet grates.

Minimum Qualifications
Work requires contacts with coworkers from other organizational units. Resourcefulness is required to reach or adjust working agreements within departmental procedures and operating needs. Tact and judgment are requirements in obtaining or giving information of a confidential nature.
This job title normally performs the job by following established standard operating procedures and/or policies. There is a choice of the appropriate procedure or policy to apply to duties. Performance reviewed periodically.
Other Qualifications
High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
Valid PA Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement and Tanker Endorsement.
Must pass a background check, Drug Test and the PA Child Abuse

This position is subject to Article 36, Residency Requirements, of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between the City of York and the Teamsters Local 776 which currently states that if the City’s Codified Ordinances §165.07 Residency Requirements provides a broader radius/area than what is currently provided by the CBA, than the ordinance language shall control the residency requirements of their membership. Effective May 19, 2022, Ordinance §165.07(c) was amended by City Council to state “All persons who shall become employed by the City… on or after effective date of this section shall be or become a residents of York County, or any County contiguous to York County (Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Hartford, Baltimore, and Carrol Counties), within six months from the date the employee achieves permanent employment status.”
