SUMMARY
The Vice President of Agronomy is responsible for providing strategic leadership and vision to guide the overall performance, growth, and direction of Ag Partners’ Agronomy Division. This role requires a forward-thinking leader who can drive alignment between agronomic services, sales performance, and company strategy. The VP Agronomy is accountable for setting divisional direction, instilling a culture of ownership, and holding the sales team accountable to performance standards that support margin generation, customer value, and business growth.
Key areas of oversight include: supervision, sales performance, marketing, vendor relationships, inventory and purchasing, resale pricing, and service execution. The VP Agronomy will work collaboratively with other executive leaders to ensure divisional strategies contribute to Ag Partners Cooperative’s mission, long-term success, and a best-in-class customer experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(Includes the following and other duties may be assigned.)
Responsible for:
- Lead and articulate a compelling strategic vision for the Agronomy Division that aligns with Ag Partners' long-term goals.
- Provide strong, accountable leadership of the Agronomy Sales Team to ensure disciplined execution, growth, and team development.
- Collaborating and communicating with the COO, CRO and Regional Directors to ensure best-in-class execution of all sales and service activities.
- Developing and maintaining vendor business-to-business relationships in a manner that is consistent with Ag Partners’ values with a focus on providing a high, customer first approach.
- Providing leadership that enables a culture of employee development, positivity, and collaboration.
- Growing the volumes and profitability of the Agronomy Division.
- Being a visible leader developing relationships with the Ag Partners’ team, strategic customers, and vendors.
- Oversee purchasing, pricing, and inventory of all Crop Nutrients, Crop Protection, and Seed. This includes managing derivatives and hedging positions where applicable.
- Developing and maintaining a daily position report.
- Develop an annual Agronomy Division budget and capital expenditure plan in conjunction with Division Leaders, CRO and CFO. Followed by operating within the budget established.
- Working with all members of the executive leadership team to help drive overall business profitability.
- Providing guidance on Agronomy market opportunities for expansion and acquisitions.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises Crop Protection Manager, Crop Nutrients Manager, Digital Ag Manager, Wholesale Account Manager, and Regional Sales Directors. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems and verifying timecards.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Education equivalent to a 4-year college degree in Agronomy or a minimum of 5 years in Ag Retail Sales. This position requires excellent computer operation skills. Must be willing to seek out and attend additional continuing education, seminars, classes or other job-related education requirements or opportunities. Should have knowledge of accounting software; database software; internet software; spreadsheet software and word processing software.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with customers or employees of the cooperative.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume, and weights.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS
This position does not require certificates, licenses and/or registration.
REASONING ABILITY
The ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Able to deal with problems with several concrete variables in standard situations. Must be able to think quickly and perform a mental assessment of workplace hazards, take appropriate precautions, and choose appropriate PPE as dictated by need, regulation and labeling.
