About the Department
Dispatch emergency and non-emergency calls for police and fire. Answers the 9-1-1 system, enters call data and information into computer aided dispatch software, answer general phone calls from the public on all issues related to public service within the city. Handles request from bonding companies and private citizens on prisoner information and request from the public on issues related to public safety. Is the liaison between the public and the officers. Take all walk-in traffic, impound releases, and questions while performing any tasks emergency related. Must be able to type, multi-task, and do whatever job is asked of you at the time.
Position Duties
1. Police and Fire Radio Traffic (Yukon and Piedmont). This duty is performed daily.
2. Answering emergency, non-emergency and all 9-1-1 incoming calls.
3. Entry of OLETS/ Inquiry into OLETS/ Maintain OLETS required data.
4. Maintain records and county documents on computer and files.
5. Be the initial contact for visitors to the building.
6. Run and perform searches for all data in support of the police officers, firefighters, and outside medical personnel.
7. Accept money for various services and bonds.
8. Maintain communications with municipal and county judge’s offices.
9. Jail functions (i.e., inmate checks, feeding, communications with inmates, inmate data entry, inmate information release, etc.)
10. Monitor building cameras and building access.
11. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Mental alertness and adaptability to office and field area work routines. Equivalent to four years high school or GED, with particular emphasis during high school in office skills, shop skills, or others, plus 7 to 11 months related experience and/or training. Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Skill in verbal and written communication.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Must successfully pass a CritiCall exam administered by ACOG.
