NATURE OF WORK:The Assistant Manager of Gondola Maintenance and Gondola Operations supports and assists the management, daily operations, and maintenance of the gondola, chondola, and gondola commuter shuttles. This role provides critical support in personnel management, operational oversight, safety compliance, and training development. The position plays a key role in fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and excellence while ensuring efficient and reliable service delivery.
Position Duties
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists with the management of daily operations of Gondola Operations and Gondola Maintenance in accordance with department policies and procedures and public transit regulations; ensures compliance with safety and service standards; evaluates and analyzes operational issues and implements solutions.
- Assists with the management of Gondola Operations Crew Leaders, Gondola Maintenance Supervisors and frontline gondola staff; provides leadership and guidance; develops priorities; assigns tasks and projects; ensures all issues are addressed and resolved; meets regularly with staff to discuss and resolve workload and technical issues. Develops and manages workload strategies to ensure effective and efficient department performance.
- Monitors and adjusts operations based on weather conditions, passenger volume, and staffing levels.
- Leads incident response efforts, including evacuations and emergency procedures. Authorizes and oversees the closing, evacuation, and restarting of gondola operations in response to incidents.
- Maintains and updates safety protocols, ensuring all staff are trained and compliant.
- Conducts regular safety inspections, audits, and drills to identify and mitigate risks.
- Actively supports a departmental safety program that will effectively reduce and control accidents; develops practical safety rules and procedures pertinent to the activities conducted by the department; maintains safety inspections as appropriate; provides for adequate job training and continuing safety instructions to all employees in the department; holds each subordinate supervisor fully accountable for an explanation of the preventable losses, collisions, and liability incurred by a departmental employee; takes corrective action for any unsafe condition that is observed which could adversely affect the safety of an employee or the general public; maintains an effective driver training program for drivers of town vehicles; wears the required personal protective equipment (PPE) including wearing seat belts when operating any town vehicle; budgets for, purchases, and replenishes safety equipment as required.
- Ensures compliance with all safety and operational standards, including ANSI B77, CPTSB, DOT, FTA, and other regulatory requirements.
- Oversees maintenance and equipment replacement schedules.
- Oversees maintenance and equipment documentation.
- Assists in management of training programs for all gondola and parking staff.
- Provides ongoing guidance, support, and skills development for team members.
- Participates in performance evaluations, hiring processes, and staff development planning.
- Ensures staff are trained in emergency response, safety protocols, and customer service standards.
- Maintains training records and certifications, ensuring all staff meet industry and regulatory standards.
- Assist in with developing and managing departmental budgets, ensuring efficient use of resources.
- Tracks expenses and monitor financial performance, contributing to the Town’s zero waste and carbon neutrality goals.
- Analyzes financial data and operational metrics to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve efficiency.
- Prepares detailed reports on revenue, passenger counts, and utilization of parking services.
- Collects and analyzes maintenance and operational data, preparing comprehensive reports on performance, incidents, and service trends.
- Manages time reporting, accounts payable, and other administrative tasks accurately and on time.
- Develops and maintains policies and procedures to support operational consistency and accountability.
- Maintains relationships with industry professionals and attend relevant conferences to stay informed of best practices.
- Fosters a positive and supportive work environment that encourages teamwork and accountability.
- Promotes a culture of safety, excellence, and continuous improvement.

- Represents the organization in community committees and planning/construction issues relevant to the gondola.
- Act as a role model for professionalism, integrity, and customer service.
- Gondola employees represent the Town even when off duty and especially when using Town Property or Transit Facilities. Whether on or off duty, gondola employees should take care to behave in a way that would not cause damage to Town Property, negatively impact Transit Operations, and to not cause embarrassment for themselves or the Town, their employer.
- Act as a liaison, when necessary, between Mountain Village and its residents and guests, subcontractors, vendors, and merchants giving direction and assistance as needed.
- Actively works to progress the Town’s goal of zero waste and carbon neutrality by minimizing unnecessary consumption (of energy, water, paper, plastic, ink, etc.), seeking environmentally preferred products (e.g., reusable, recycled content, non-fossil fuel), and supporting environmental initiatives through participation, promotion, and accurate storytelling. Develop ways to improve quality, efficiency, and effectiveness in our department and throughout the entire organization.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma/GED, Bachelor’s degree preferred and three (3) years public transportation experience, and/or lift operations/maintenance including supervisory or personnel management experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Licenses/Certification(s):
Possession of a valid Driver’s License is required; commercial driver’s license is preferred. Employee must have experience driving motor vehicles in all types of weather. Additional technical certifications may be required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Knowledge of: Principles and practices of administrative management, including personnel rules and effective employee supervision; Town and state traffic regulations, signs & signals, and safety procedures; Gondola program standards and rules; geographic features and roads within the service area; Federal, state and regional public transit regulations and safety standards; Town policies and procedures.
Skill in: Effectively supervising staff, and delegating tasks and authority; using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines; using courtesy and respect in providing customer service; performing general math calculations, and records management tasks; promoting a culture of excellence in transportation services; establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with employees and the general public.
Environmental Factors: Work is performed in a variety of weather conditions, near mechanical moving parts, in areas with vibration and noise, in highly used public Gondola cabins, public spaces, and in contact with multiple use public amenities as well as in a standard office environment.
Physical Factors: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time, walk a moderate degree, may lift/move up to 40 pounds; operate department equipment and department transportation vehicles (which on a seasonal basis includes ATVs and snowmobiles).
