What We Offer

Denver City Council is seeking Interns to provide support to our Council Members.  This is a part-time, hourly position that will work no more than 20 hours per week. We are seeking candidates who can be available to start as early as September 8, 2025. Internships will end on December 5, 2025, with the possibility of an extension, if mutually agreed upon.  The pay range for this position is $19.75/hour - $22.32/hour based on education. Interns are not eligible for benefits. Please note this position may require regular work outside of normal business hours, including evenings and weekends.

Location & Schedule

In this position you can expect to work primarily on-site at a District Office or the Denver City and County Building 3 – 4 days per week. Interns may work on evenings and weekends, as needed. Special events, meetings, and other City Council happenings may take place off-site at various locations around Denver.

What You’ll Do

City Council Internships are built around the core responsibilities of policy/legislative research, constituent services, and marketing & communications. Interns will wear many hats and adapt to priorities and tasks, as needed. This is a great opportunity to learn the inner workings of City Council within the City and County of Denver through various projects, tasks, and support needed for a growing and changing community. Interns will experience a fast-paced, professional environment while working special projects and scheduling details for events that pertain to city council and our Denver’s residents.

As an intern with Denver City Council, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Assist in a variety of constituent services such as answering questions, complaints, concerns, and requests in a timely and professional manner

  • Conduct policy research - study the origin, development, and operation of municipal, state, and federal governments. You may study topics such as public opinion, political decision making, and ideology.

  • Budget - Assist with managing district budgets.

  • Assist with social media planning and content creation

  • Write competently in a variety of styles to communicate agendas, briefs, summaries for notifications, and a variety of events/meetings

  • Facilitate advance efforts and coordinate logistics for Council Members’ schedules and community engagements/commitments 

  • Attend external meetings, public meetings, and project team meetings

  • Request and collect briefs and agendas for speaking and event preparations and meetings

  • Complete additional projects, as assigned

What You’ll Bring

Our ideal internship candidate will have excellent interpersonal communication skills and exceptional attention to detail. This individual is expected to be a self-starter with an inherent high work ethic. The desired candidate should be capable of maintaining a positive attitude in a high pressure, confidentiality-sensitive and fast-paced environment. Our ideal internship candidate will also be pursuing an education in or have an interest in, public administration, political science, policy-making, community engagement, or related fields.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Current enrollment in an accredited college program leading to a certificate, licensure, associates, bachelor’s, or higher degree in, or a recent graduate (completed specified program within 1 year of completion).

  • Experience Requirement: None

  • Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted.

  • License/Certifications: None
