Duties
The Deck Operations Supervisor: Provides technical and advisory services for the operation and maintenance of various trades at the Reserve Fleet, and on a day-to-day, project-by-project basis, plans, implements, and directs the use of personnel involved in those trades. Assigns and explains work requirements, sets deadlines, provides technical guidance, investigates and resolves productivity issues, observes work progress to address problems, and when necessary, reassigns personnel and coordinates group activities. Supports and explains fleet programs, plans and monitors employee leave schedules, ensures compliance with fleet leave policies, and counsels employees on proper leave usage while enforcing regulations. The ideal candidate must display a high degree of leadership, reliability, and competence and must possess a superior knowledge of shipboard steam and diesel propulsion plants, associated systems, and auxiliary machinery.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: SELECTIVE SERVICE: Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for the Selective Service. GOVERNMENT TRAVEL CARD: This position involves travel. A government contractor-issued travel card will be issued and must be retained for official business only. DRUG TEST: This position has been determined to be a critical safety/security position as defined in the Department of Transportation (DOT) Order, DOT 3910.1D entitled "Drug and Alcohol-Free Departmental Workplace." Therefore, if selected for the position you will be required to submit to a pre-employment/pre-appointment drug test, you will also be subject to Random Drug Testing. SUPERVISORY PROBATIONARY PERIOD: You must complete a one-year supervisory probationary period (unless already completed). PROBATIONARY PERIOD: You must complete a one-year probationary period (unless already completed). DEU REQUIREMENTS: Applicants selected under delegated examining procedures may be required to successfully complete a one-year probationary period (unless already completed).
Qualifications
Qualifications for the position are based on the training, experience, or other requirements that determine which applicants would be able to perform satisfactorily in the position to be filled. To qualify for the WS-12, your experience should include experience equal or equivalent to the following: Ability to oversee the movement of ships, watercraft, and manpower required, including coverage for emergency conditions. Ability to inspect and assess mooring arrangements for berthed ships, directing subordinates in corrective action, and coordinating its management. Ability to interpret and apply navigation rules and navigation aids in charting the movement of ships and watercraft.
