Description
The Shop Assistant is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the heavy-duty repair shop, including sweeping, mopping, and restocking supplies while ensuring compliance with safety regulations for waste disposal. They provide essential support to technicians by fetching tools, and preparing vehicles through washing and conducting basic pre-inspection tasks. The role involves adherence to safety protocols to create a hazard-free work environment, performing routine maintenance on shop tools and equipment, and reporting malfunctions. Additional duties include running errands to pick up or deliver parts, transporting vehicles, and assisting with basic maintenance tasks such as fluid checks and tire pressure adjustments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Shop Organization and Cleanliness
- Sweep, use floor scrubber, and maintain general shop cleanliness, including organizing tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Empty trash and dispose of hazardous waste according to safety regulations.
- Organize and restock supplies, such as rags, oil, and chemicals.
- Assisting Technicians
- Fetch tools and supplies for technicians as needed to support their workflow.
- Help with the removal or installation of tires, fluids, and smaller components under supervision.
- Vehicle Preparation
- Wash, clean, and prepare trucks and trailers before and after repair work.
- Conduct basic pre-inspection tasks, such as checking fluid levels and visual inspections.
- Safety and Compliance
- Follow safety procedures to ensure a hazard-free working environment, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Keep work areas clear and organized to prevent accidents and hazards.
- Comply with environmental regulations for the disposal of fluids and materials.
- Equipment Maintenance
- Perform routine maintenance on shop tools and equipment, such as cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn parts.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or safety issues to shop foreman.
- Errands and Deliveries
- Pick up parts, tools, and equipment to and from suppliers or customers as required.
- Transport vehicles within the shop premises or to external locations as authorized.
- Basic Maintenance and Repairs
- Inspect and top off fluids, check tire pressure, and assist with routine vehicle maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: All relevant experience will be considered. Experience repairing heavy-duty equipment highly desirable.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in using hand tools.
- Licenses and Compliance: Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred, ability to pass pre-employment and random drug testing, and a pre-employment background check.
