Remote Virtual Teacher -KIVA bei Kentwood Public School District

Position:  Vitural Teacher - KIVA
                   Effective 2025-2026 School Year

Position Purpose:  Under the general supervision of the Executive Director of Secondary Education and School Principal the Virtual Teacher is responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where learners have the opportunity to fulfill their potential and for organizing and implementing an instructional program that results in students achieving academic success in accordance with District and state policies and laws. The Virtual Teacher is a highly qualified instructional teacher responsible for the delivery of specified course content in an online, virtual environment. 

Essential Job Functions: 

    
• Assists teaching and non-teaching staff in implementing and monitoring behavior effective behavior management practices. 
    
• Communicate course and school requirements to assigned student
    
• Maintain and support a caseload of students as assigned by the program coordinator. 
    
• Facilitate students through identified curriculum and district identified learning platform.
    
• Maintain availability to students and parents between 8 am and 3 pm Monday- Friday, with scheduled ‘office hours’.
    
• Provide instructional support for students on essential learning topics as needed
    
• Track student progress and help students stay on pace to complete class by class end date.
    
• Conference with parents of struggling students by phone or online.
    
• Maintain and complete accurate student grading and record keeping under the direction.
    
• Communicate with teachers, administrators, and parents as needed.
    
• Respond to student messages and discussions in a timely manner within school guidelines.
    
• Regular, reliable and punctual attendance

Additional Duties:  Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment:  Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Travel Requirements:  Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

• Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
    
• Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
    
• Ability to work in an economically, culturally and racially diverse environment.
    
• Knowledge of foundations in Teaching and Learning, specifically in an online learning environment, including theories/models/research and best practices.
    
• Knowledge and skills in differentiated instruction based on student learning styles. 
    
• Knowledge and skills in collecting, analyzing, and maintaining student data, as well as the formulation of data-based action plans. 
    
• Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students, including knowledge of Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
    
• Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
    
• Ability to organize and coordinate work.
    
• Excellent effective communication skills (verbal and written).
    
• Demonstrated ability to deal with students, parents & staff in a tactful and courteous manner.

Qualifications/Education/Certification:   

    
• Current Michigan teaching certification, certified in Social Studies (RX).
    
• Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
    
• EL certification or experience working with EL students preferred.
    
• Masters Degree preferred.
    
• Three years or more of classroom teaching experience, preferred.
    
• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced environment.
