A. The primary function of the custodian is to maintain a clean, safe environment at our schools for the students, staff and community of Worth School District 127.
B. Reports to assigned building Administrator and Director of Building and Grounds.
C. Responsibilities:
1. General Cleaning - Cleans all offices, washrooms, corridors, classrooms and grounds in area assigned.
2. Dust mops, wet mops, vacuums, scrubs, and shampoos floors, carpets and floor mats as directed.
3. Regulates heat, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water and electricity.
4. Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy in accordance with building security procedures.
5. Dusts, washes and repairs furniture (tables, chairs, desks and furnishings) as directed.
6. Dusts sills, ledges, and lockers.
7. Spot cleans walls, washes windows, doors, kick plates, doorframes, and display cases, and glass as needed.
8. Cleans and washes chalkboard, erasers, and checks pencil sharpeners.
9. Washes and sanitizes P.E. mats as needed.
10. Cleans and sanitizes drinking fountains, lavatories, urinals, toilet bowls, and fixtures daily.
11. Cleans and fills soap dispensers, towel dispensers, and toilet tissue dispensers as needed.
12. Empties, cleans and sanitizes trash containers.
13. Cleans and sanitizes telephones.
14. Cleans clogged drains, toilets, vents, and exhaust fans as required.
15. Cleans and changes filters as directed.
16. Makes all minor replacements & repairs and reports any malfunctions to the Building Principal.
17. Makes minor repairs as directed.
18. Secures the building before leaving at the end of his/her shift.
19. Regularly checks on all activities within the building.
20. Sets up and takes down all equipment required for activities assigned to the building during his/her shift.
21. Cleans up after all activities during his/her shift.
22. Cares for lawns and walks and removes snow and ice.
23. Assists with unloading and delivery of all school materials.
24. Maintains confidentiality of district and school information.
25. Performs all duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal and Director of Building
