Key Responsibilities
The purpose of the Project Engineer role is to support in co-ordinating and specifying the engineering and technical elements of project delivery. This could be realised as taking ownership of a study or minor project or supporting the Senior Project Engineer in delivering a major project. In this role, you will focus on task identification and management of engineering functional requirements, ensuring compliance with as-sold information and safety, in accordance with statutory regulation. This is a customer facing role working closely with the Project Manager, and Head of Departments to ensure programme and cost targets are met on individual projects.
- Attend internal handover meeting(s) and review bid documentation, contract, schedule, and client/as-sold specifications.
- Ensure all output from the Engineering group complies with project specification and statutory regulation, confirming all safety aspects of the system design are achieved.
- Review the project structure and maintain alignment throughout project.
- Compile and maintain the Project Master Specification and Major Assembly Design Specifications.
- Responsible for the development & adherence to the work breakdown structure (WBS), ensuring engineering deliverables and activities are on time and aligned to the project requirements. Evaluate, organise, and prioritise engineering functional workload in line with the project schedule. Obtain a weekly progress status report for all tasks from functional areas, and feed back to the Project Manager/ Planning Manager.
- Host weekly multi-disciplinary design/ model/ project reviews to identify gaps (incl. break-in tasks), and to ensure all functions are familiar with the maturity of the overall design, confirming alignment with specification as required.
- Ensure all risk assessments are carried out in accordance with safety regulation and good practice.
- Checking & Approval of all engineering specifications and deliverables for compliance, ensuring budgets, programme, and safety requirements are clearly detailed/ considered.
- Prepare subcontract scope of work documentation, raise purchase orders, and manage subcontract design.
- Raise purchase requisitions for all “major” bought-out components on projects (to be identified during project mobilisation by the Project Manager).
- Responsible for the capture of all change (internal/ external) on projects via the DCN process. This will support the Project Manager with budget and programme control commercially.
- Identify any variations to contractual scope and escalate to the Project Manager immediately.
- Identification, management, and logging of all Technical Queries (TQ) that occur on the project ensuring that the content is accurate, and that responses are provided to not hinder project delivery.
- Responsible for the collation and completion of the Technical File and O&M Manual(s).
- Engagement with client, site, sub-contractors, and suppliers, ensuring timely and professional responses accordingly.
- Promote cost reduction, value engineering, standardisation, risk reduction, and a right-first-time approach throughout engineering delivery.
- Participate & contribute to any lessons learned and continuous improvement meetings.
- Support the rectification of any engineering NCR raised against the project, proposing modifications to procedure and practices accordingly.
- Deliver works in alignment with the business’ ISO 9001 processes and templates as controlled within the Quality Management System (COS).
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- BEng (Hons) in Engineering (preferably Mechanical or Chemical Engineering).
- Previous experience in an engineering field.
- Knowledge of the construction & process industries and applicable standards.
- Understanding of control system operating principals and directives.
- Planning, managing, and reporting project tasks and responsibilities.
