Join Our Team as a Fleet Technician in our Light Shop - 2nd shift!
Are you ready to take on complex challenges in vehicle and equipment repair? The City of Hampton's Fleet Services is looking for motivated individuals to join our team as a Fleet Tech. In this role, you’ll be responsible for performing advanced maintenance and repair work across a variety of vehicles and equipment. You'll work with a great team under general supervision, following set procedures but having the autonomy to determine the best approach and timing to get the job done right.. The successful candidate will play a key role in keeping our fleet and equipment in top condition. Minimum Requirements- High school diploma or GED.
- Vocational, technical or trade school training in automotive technology preferred.
- Two (2) years of full-time equivalent experience in the repair and maintenance for the class of vehicles in the shop you are assigned.
- Experience must have included preventative maintenance checks, computerized diagnostics, and complex electrical, mechanical and hydraulic troubleshooting.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.
- Must be a Certified as a Motor Vehicle Inspector, licensed by the State of Virginia, or the ability to pass the requirements to obtain license within 120-days.
- Must obtain and maintain one (1) ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification for the class of equipment in your shop within one (1) year of employment.
- Must possess a State of Virginia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or have the ability to obtain within 180 days of employment, if assigned to Heavy Off-Road Shop.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
- This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
- Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
Additional Requirements
- Must possess a complete set of automotive mechanic tools at all times while in this position.
- The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
