Job Overview:

 

We are seeking a dynamic Business Development Director that can help accelerate growth for Bruichladdich Distillery brands.  Reporting to the VP of Marketing and working closely with Marketing, Trade Marketing, and Sales, this position will lead the commercial growth strategy for Bruichaddich Distillery brands across the USA while also helping to drive whisky culture and expertise throughout the Rémy Cointreau USA organization.  

 

Bruichladdich’s ambition is to make the most-thought provoking spirits by reconnecting land to dram.  The distillery emphasizes local ingredients and sustainable practices, creating distinctive single malts that reflect the unique character of Islay.  It is one of the few distilleries in the world to be B Corp certified and operates with a vision to lead with people and purpose in line with profit.  

 

Bruichladdich is part of Rémy Cointreau, a French spirits group with a portfolio of exceptional brands including The House of Rémy Martin, Cointreau, The Botanist Gin, and Mount Gay Rum.  Each of these brands embodies unique expertise and heritage, but all share the same love of terroir and a culture of excellence.

 

 

Job Responsibilities: 

 

Commercial Development

  • Identify the key whisky destinations in the off and on-premise in major markets and create a plan to infiltrate and grow the Bruichladdich business.
  • Identify the right distribution targets to grow Bruichladdich's footprint in the USA and work closely with commercial and distributor teams to track progress against targets.
  • Guide commercial teams on identifying and targeting investment opportunities and the deployment of resources.  
  • Define the touchpoints needed to grow key customers and Certified Retail Partners.  Collaborate with Marketing and Trade Marketing on Certified Retailer Program offering and structure. 
  • Work with National Accounts create an effective Bruichladdich strategy to drive Single Malt sales in the off and on-premise.
  • Identify sales barriers and work with local Sales teams and Trade Marketing to create customizations that will drive the business.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key Single Malt accounts across the USA.
  • Participate on sales calls with key customers.
  • Work with Brand and Trade Marketing team on creating the right programs and toolbox to drive the Single Malt business.
  • Partner with Brand and Trade to develop commercial go-to-market plan for innovation and limited edition launches.

 

Coaching/training

  • Create and manage sales/distributor trainings on Bruichladdich and Single Malt including selling methods/best practices.
  • Create the right trainings and materials for different types of audiences.  Standardize masterclasses and event programs and playbooks.  
  • Collaborate with ambassador team on optimal Single Malt advocacy organization, coverage, and ways of working.

 

Business Tracking

  • Track commercial investment to ensure the optimal use of resources against goals. 
  • Work with sales teams and distributors to build the proper KPIs.
  • Closely monitor progress and sales to ensure goals are being met.

 

Job Qualifications:

Required skills:

  • Strong expertise with Single Malt Scotch with the ability to provide coaching and training on the category.
  • Passion for whisky: A genuine love and enthusiasm for single malt whisky, particularly Bruichladdich, is essential.
  • Strong communication skills: You need to be articulate, engaging, and able to convey your knowledge effectively to different audiences.
  • Excellent networking abilities: Building relationships is key, so being comfortable and confident networking with various people is essential.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills: You’ll likely be managing your own schedule and juggling multiple tasks.
  • Knowledge of and strong relationships with top Single Malt accounts in the off-premise and on-premise.  
  • Proven commercial track record of developing business.
  • Self-starter, comfortable with a high level of autonomy and the ability to anticipate opportunities and develop actionable solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with good financial acumen.
