Monte Sano Research Corporation (MSRC) is a Huntsville-based Small Business specializing in providing full-spectrum defense system engineering, research, design, development, integration, test, evaluation, and planning services to the U.S. Government.

 

MSRC is seeking a Materials Engineer to join a diverse team to create unique solutions for complex problems. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Materials Engineer will provide technical expertise in materials characterization, analysis, and testing to support aerospace, defense, and industrial programs. In this role, the Materials Engineer will collaborate closely with engineers, scientists, and R&D teams to ensure testing and evaluation are conducted to meet manufacturability, performance, and reliability requirements. Responsibilities include conducting metallographic and microstructural analysis, performing mechanical and physical property testing, operating specialized laboratory equipment, investigating material failures, and evaluating protective coatings and treatments. The Materials Engineer will also plan and execute experiments, analyze data, prepare technical reports and presentations, and communicate findings to internal teams, customers, and government/industry partners.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Conduct metallographic analysis, including optical microscopy of materials such as Aluminum, Nickel, Titanium, Copper, and refractory alloys.
  • Analyze and test material properties of additive manufactured materials and its effects of the manufacturing process.
  • Perform digital image analysis to evaluate materials properties such as porosity, grain size, phase composition, and coating thickness.
  • Conduct hardness testing, density measurements, and tensile testing to assess material characteristics based in industry standards.
  • Characterize material properties using advanced testing methods, such as SEM, XRD
  • Operate laboratory furnaces for heat treating and material testing.
  • Investigate material failures and identifying root causes using microstructural analysis and mechanical testing
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of coatings to prevent corrosion.
  • Plan and execute experiments, collect data, and draw conclusions to identify material-related issues 
  • Document and present findings to stakeholders and relevant collaborators 
  • Candidate must be able to communicate and work well with a multi-disciplined team.
  • The position requires candidates to be capable of performing in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville, AL area.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in accredited Engineering or scientific discipline required.
  • Masters of Science in accredited Engineering or scientific discipline preferred. 
  • Background in Chemistry preferred.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Active Secret DoD Clearance or eligibility to obtain clearance.
  • Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.
