About the Department
Forsyth County's General Services department has an opening for Sr. Maintenance Technician. This position is vital for mowing operations and various other services county wide. The Sr. Maintenance Technician provides service and leadership for a landscape and mowing crew that is responsible for maintaining 38 weekly facility sites, 4 communications towers and work orders for outlying properties.
The Sr. Technician in this position will be required to transport and operate heavy equipment. It is necessary for the applicant to have a NC CDL.
Nearly all service provided by the Grounds Division are exposed to the elements. The ability to work in all weather conditions essential. The ability to report to work for snow and ice removal is required.
Position Duties
A successful candidate should have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
Considerable knowledge of the materials, tools and methods used in a building trade such as carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical work or in grounds maintenance.
Working knowledge of one or more additional trades.
Ability to work from plans and specifications.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to do a variety of skilled maintenance work.
Ability to oversee the work of others.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
OVERALL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Very Heavy - Lifting over 100 lbs occasionally, 50-100 lbs. frequently or up to 20-50 lbs. constantly.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or GED and at least three years of landscaping / lawn maintenance experience. Must have experience leading the work of others.
Must have a valid NC CDL.
Prefer completion of a technical school program or certification in the relevant trade.
A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement.
This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the U.S. Department of Justice's Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check.
