These positions are open for the Minnesota Power Distribution System Engineering department. Applications received from other departments will not proceed forward in the hiring process.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under minimal guidance provide a variety of detailed technical solutions as requested for external customers and/or internal engineering groups through the development of original project concepts or analysis of as-built design conditions.  
  • Develop and analyze alternative designs to engineering problems using accepted best practices.  
  • Coordinate project assignments through use of technical support and assures customer satisfaction by providing design options which are technically correct, operationally feasible, accurately documented, economical, and aligned with project objectives.  

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate degree or equivalent certification in engineering related field, drafting or equivalent PLUS four years or more related experience with demonstrated competencies in either Civil/Structural; Electrical; or Mechanical design option PLUS the ability to become competent in additional design options

OR

  • High School diploma or equivalent PLUS six years or more job-related industrial design with extensive engineering and construction experience with demonstrated competencies in either Civil/Structural; Electrical; or Mechanical design option PLUS the ability to become competent in additional design options.  

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • These positions will report regularly in person to Duluth, MN OR Cloquet, MN
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Field work and extensive travel to customer sites, with occasional overnight stays required.
  • Must have knowledge of design software applications.
  • Requires excellent interpersonal and written communication skills to establish and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers. 
  • This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

  • The expected annual compensation range for this position is $70,000 - $87,000. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, experience, and market conditions.
