Summary of Position
The CDL Instructor will be responsible for all driver training functions for the CDL training and certification program at the Goodwill Career & Technical Academy. The instructor will help students learn and demonstrate the skills necessary to pass the CDL skills test and obtain their CDL.
Job Description
Role and Responsibilities
- Direct and manage technical training classes, providing theory, simulation and hands-on training required to meet requirements needed to successfully pass the Texas Commercial Driver’s Test.
- Help develop training materials for use in formal class training – this includes curriculum for classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel instruction; high competency reviewing, discussing and presenting these materials.
- Provide training in policy and procedures in compliance with all local, state and federal rules, regulations and laws.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Must be 21 years of age
- Possess high school diploma or GED
- 5-7 years of verifiable truck driving experience in the most recent ten (10) years; with a safe driving record as verified by Texas Department of Public Safety
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of safe driving and all of the laws and regulations covering tractor-trailer operations
- Must be able to pass a background check. Have had no driver related convictions in the previous five years. Have had no history of felony convictions or; any convictions involving fraudulent activities
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled environment.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel and twist for 8 hours.
- Ability to lift 35 pounds frequently.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employees is regularly required to talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work.
- Regular, predictable attendance is required as business demands dictate.
