This role in summary

 

Whirlpool is currently seeking qualified candidates for a Technician Specialist opening in our Global Product Safety and Regulatory Affairs function.

This is an onsite role at our Paw Paw River Tech Center in Benton Harbor, MI.


The technician will provide technical direction in problem solving while developing and applying a strong understanding of appliance operations and lab procedures. In this position, you'll take a lead role in developing and documenting new test procedures, gathering knowledge through test results and applying that information to analyze problems for root cause.
 

Your responsibilities will include

 

  • Perform evaluations on products and components with general supervision

  • Handle multiple projects concurrently

  • Record and compile data, maintain accurate records, prepare technical reports and verbally communicate results with conclusions and recommendations

  • Plan order of own assignments along with requesters to meet schedules

  • Train and assist other employees as needed

  • Assist in the development and documentation of new procedures

  • Maintain laboratory equipment and facilities

  • Construct basic test fixtures as required

  • Frequently be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds - occasionally up to 100 pounds with assistance

Minimum requirements

 

  • High school diploma or GED 

  • 2+ years of lab experience

Preferred skills and experiences

 

  • Associates degree with a minimum of 2 years experience or a 4 year technology degree

  • Basic knowledge of general lab procedures

  • Working knowledge of home appliances, a plus

  • In-depth knowledge of technologies in mechanical, chemical, electrical, etc. areas

  • Ability to come to conclusions and make recommendations from test procedure data

  • Outstanding people skills, with the specific ability to interact as a team player

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to use basic technical equipment and instrumentation

  • In-depth computerized equipment skills and record keeping systems, including Microsoft products

  •  Ability to move appliances using appliance carts (assistance from other people is acceptable).

  • High level of motivation and energy

  • Proven ability to apply critical thinking

  • Ability and willingness to take the lead with non inspection related lab responsibilities
