Position Summary:

The Parent Educator provides early childhood home visiting services to families.  This position models and teaches parenting techniques and provides resources to assist in all areas of early childhood development.  Ensures services meet organizational guidelines, funder requirements and accreditation standards.

 Essential Functions:

  • Recruits and enrolls eligible families into home visiting program. Provides information and completes intake process.
  • Provides information to parents one-on-one and in group settings regarding parent-child activities, including teaching and modeling parenting techniques, assisting with child development activities and nurturing parent-child attachments.
  • Administers screenings for parents and children to identify strengths and areas needing improvement. Determines if families need additional assistance, including resources on early childhood development, mental health, government benefits/resources, physical health and safety, parent support groups, etc.
  • Maintains familiarity with resources and services in the community. Connects families to resources, sets goals, identifies barriers and performs follow-up activities.
  • Maintains case files and documentation. Ensures services comply with organizational, funder and accreditation standards.
  • Participates in regular staff meetings, reflective supervision and professional development opportunities.
  • May attend community meetings and represents Easterseals in the community in a professional manner.

Qualifications:

  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree or some college coursework in related field preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children and families preferred.

Additional Requirements:

  • This position primarily works weekday, daytime hours with occasional evening and weekend hours depending on the needs of the organization.
  • This position requires driving personal vehicle to provide services within regional area.
  • Must have reliable vehicle and maintain current driver’s license and proof of insurance.
  • Must complete and maintain all required trainings/certifications.
  • Must maintain confidential information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
