Position Summary:
This position is responsible for providing Washoe and American Indian/Alaskan Native adults, children and adolescents and their families with psychosocial support needed to cope with chronic, acute or mental health and/or substance use disorders. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
Requirements
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
· Engage in community outreach.
· Screen, assess and recommend intervention for people with suicidal ideation, mental health problems and substance abuse.
· Advise family and/or care givers and help coordinate services needed throughout treatment.
· Provide support and consultation for all departments within the Health Center for those suffering from a wide range of mental health and medical problems.
· Work directly with Washoe Tribe and County (Alpine, Douglas and Carson) Social Services and Courts to address and report concerns regarding abuse and neglect.
· Make referrals and collaborate with other mental health and medical professionals.
· Document (in the electronic health record) using Diagnostic and Statistical Manual edition (DSM) diagnosis.
· Co-develop and implement an individualized intensive case management plan for individuals, groups and families.
· Represent the Health Center in a positive manner with tribal members and professionals.
· Participate in Patient Care and Individual Education Plan meetings on behalf of individuals.
· Seek further training and knowledge in behavioral healthcare to remain current with behavioral health standards of care.
· Adheres to all healthcare standards as related to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
· Performs other duties as required for position.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university in social work, or closely related field and five (5) years’ experience and training in behavior or health.
· Suicide Prevention, Substance Abuse Treatment, Domestic Violence, Anger Management, and Effective Parenting training preferred.
· Preference given to qualified Native Americans.
Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications:
· Knowledge of records management procedures, and use of electronic health record system.
· Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and regulations including established professional standards.
· Knowledge of medical and psychiatric rehabilitation terminology.
· Knowledge of physical and behavioral (psychological, emotional and social) needs.
· Knowledge of medications commonly prescribed for psychiatric clients.
· Knowledge of community resources for behavioral health related issues.
· Ability to analyze problems, devise solutions, and make sound decisions.
· Ability to apply the principles and concepts of psychiatric rehabilitation counseling.
· Ability to interview and secure personal and social information, as well as information needed for determining client’s needs and barriers.
· Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
· Ability to plan, organize, and express ideas clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
· Ability to maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and other personnel.
· Ability to represent the organization in a professional manner, building respect and confidence.
· Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
· Skills in operating personal computer using computer software.
· Skill using basic arithmetic.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; occasionally is required to operate a motor vehicle, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment:
Work is generally performed in an office setting with a moderate noise level.
The Washoe Tribe of Nevada & California requires a background check of each new hire for employment purposes. Therefore, all conditionally offered positions will be subject to the following:
