PURPOSE STATEMENT
The Engineer is responsible for maintaining the operation of a building's mechanical and utility systems. This position checks operation of all installed machinery and safety equipment periodically as programmed, as well as inspects areas of buildings for personnel and patient protection (fire, safety, and security) and recommends corrections. The Engineer will also be responsible for spackling, patch plasters and paint where needed. The Engineer makes emergency repair of equipment or apparatus as required and installs, inspects, maintains, and repairs mechanical and fixed equipment as directed, as well as carries out preventative maintenance programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist in major and minor utility shut down requested by various departments, outside contractors, and in-house shops
- Install new or replacement machinery, equipment, and fixture following applicable building codes
- Maintain and repairs various equipment used in the hospitals which include kitchen equipment, patient related equipment, various systems, and multifunction machines
- Operate various machine tools. (Lathe, drill press, power saw, hydraulic press, etc.)
- Perform equipment preventative maintenance
- Perform routine inspections of building machines, noting deficiencies, and initiates repairs. As appropriate, responds to customer requests to address environmental deficiencies
- Assist in maintaining & repairing H.V.A.C. controls & associated equipment to maximize efficiency levels in all environmentally controlled areas, also assists in maintaining electrical wiring & emergency generator systems. Inspects & tests equipment/systems
- Perform urgent corrective, routine & requisitioned repairs of electrical, mechanical & plumbing systems as required
- Perform preventative maintenance duties to all physical structures of hospital & complies with all building safety codes.
- Paint, spackle and finish all types of surfaces as required and achieves results that meet departmental standards. Patches plaster as needed.
- Mix paints and colors by using formula books, color charts or by whatever means are necessary to achieve desired colors or textures.
- Complete assignments within allotted time, taking into consideration the needs of patients, customers, and client. Work carefully and precisely with attention to detail.
- Assist in replacing, installing, repairing, & testing electrical circuits, equipment, appliances & lighting systems as required.
- Maintain routine records of all inspections, preventative maintenance & repairs performed on any equipment or system.
- Perform manual duties as requested & reads blueprints, interprets instructions, & prepares specifications.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Perform other essential duties as assigned.
Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- 5 years’ experience in the maintenance field required.
- Experience as a professional painter.
- Must be able to successfully pass a background check including, MVR records.
- Basic knowledge of electrical equipment and systems, plumbing, heating and air conditioning systems. Ability to read blueprints, schematic diagrams, interpret instructions and prepare simple specifications. Demonstrated skills with motors, drives, and mechanical equipment of all types installed at the hospital. Must have demonstrated general maintenance abilities. Must be able to follow recognized safety procedures related to equipment operation and repair.
- Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the hospital/clinic.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to sit and stand, intermittent 8 to 10 hours a day.
- Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard.
- Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines.
- Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing.
- Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition.
- Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to life and/or carry up to 40 lbs.
- Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
