Job Summary:

As the Instructional Design and Learning Experience Manager, you will collaborate with internal and external subject matter experts to design and develop engaging, impactful courses for American Bible Society. You will apply your expertise in instructional design and digital learning to create solutions that enhance both learning and user experiences through our Learning Management System (LMS). In this role, you'll also oversee the daily management, maintenance, and support of the LMS—ensuring it operates efficiently to deliver training and ministry programs that strengthen Scripture Engagement and support key learning initiatives across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Design:

  • Partner with internal and external subject matter experts (SMEs) to identify training needs and implement learning solutions to address them.
  • Design and develop learning solutions including e-learning modules, instructor-led training, virtual training, job aids, and other digital or blended learning resources.
  • Apply sound instructional design practices (ADDIE, SAM, etc.) and adult learning principles to create effective and engaging content.
  • Build and deploy e-learning content using tools such as Articulate Storyline, Rise, Adobe Captivate or similar
  • Manage multiple instructional design projects from conception through implementation, ensuring timely delivery. 
  • Maintain brand and instructional consistency across all materials and platforms.

LMS Management: 

  • Administer the LMS implementation, including user management, course development, and system configuration.
  • Manage course enrollments, track learner progress, and generate reports on training activities; Train various stakeholders on reporting capabilities in the LMS.
  • Work with each team to ensure content and training materials are properly uploaded, stored, and presented in the LMS platform.
  • Track training team course and learning path updates.
  • Generate and analyze reports on training metrics, completion rates, and other key performance indicators. 
  • Work with ABS Ministry Technology to maintain the LMS software, monitor system performance, and troubleshoot issues.
  • Monitor user interactions and progress within developed courses.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize the LMS and individual courses for better user experience and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with IT and Ministry teams to integrate the LMS with other systems and tools.

User Support: 

  • Provide support to internal staff and external partners accessing the LMS users, including troubleshooting access issues, answering usage questions, and escalating technical problems as needed.
  • Develop LMS support documentation and user guides.  Facilitate training sessions to help users navigate and utilize the LMS effectively.
  • Respond to and resolve user inquiries and issues in a timely manner.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize the LMS for better user experience and efficiency. 
  • Provide policy and governance around system usage, including user, course, and learning path creation and maintenance, as well as reporting. 

Qualifications: 

 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Learning & Development, or a related field or equivalent work experience. 
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience designing for both in-person and virtual learning environments. Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design practices.
  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of using and implementing Learning Management Systems
    1. Ability to design effective courses in a virtual environment 
    2. Proficiency with instructional design tools (e.g. Articulate Storyline, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.)
    3. Experience working within an LMS environment
    4. Strong understanding of adult learning theory, instructional models, and assessment strategies (experience with coursework for teens and young adults helpful but not required)
    5. Ability to train others in developing quality virtual courses and using the LMS
    6. Proven ability to motivate people and teams
    7. Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners

Physical Demands/Work Environment

Physical Demands:

This role primarily involves prolonged sitting, repetitive motion like typing, and use of computer which may entail close vision.

Travel Required: Minimal. Professional development conferences and periodic in-person staff meetings.
