PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Police Captain will assist the Chief of Police. He/she will assist in coordinating the daily operations of the department to provide a safe environment for students and staff. Also, is responsible for handling law enforcement matters throughout the District as stated in the Edinburg CISD Police Department "Procedures Manual", Board of Trustee Policies, and applicable federal, state and local laws, as per 37.081 of the Texas Education Code.

TEA certification requirements
B.S. Degree or college hours preferred
High School Graduate or GED
Must have a current Texas Peace Officer's license issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer
Standard and Education
Must meet all requirements for licensing by TCOLE
Must hold a current valid Texas Class "C" driver license
Must be bondable by a standard bonding company
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Demonstrate ability to work effectively with youth as well as adults
Demonstrate ability to write an effective, correct and legally complete offense report
Experience Preferred:
Five years experience as a Police Officer preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
• Responsible for the supervision and management of criminal investigations, case preparation to the Juvenile Probation Dept. & District Attorney’s Office.
• Reviews police reports for legibility and elements needed for filing the proper criminal charge.
• Custodian of police evidence, submission of evidence to the DPS Lab for processing, preservation and storage of police evidence management.
• Involved in the daily operation of Police Officers.
• Patrols ECISD jurisdictions.
• Responds to all calls for service requested from the local school principal or designee regarding crisis situations.
• Ability to defuse potentially hostile situations.
• Write effective, legal incident offense reports.
• Collect, preserve and secure evidence as necessary for supporting criminal investigations: witness statements real evidence, etc.
• Apprehend offenders.
• File appropriate criminal charges as applicable with the proper agency.
• Enforce all laws of both felony and misdemeanor degree of federal, state and local origin.
• Conduct investigations when deemed necessary based on sound information concerning an alleged criminal offense.
• Investigate motor vehicle traffic accidents.
• Assist principals with domestic complaints or complaints concerning unauthorized persons on campus.
• Assist the Transportation Department with problems at bus stop areas and/or chronic disruptions on school buses upon their requests.
• Assist staff with after hour functions upon their request.
• Assist other police agencies concerning criminal investigations when requested.
• Stop and identify suspicious persons and/or vehicles on school property.
• Enforce all rules and regulation promulgated by the Board of Trustees of ECISD within district procedure guidelines.
• Take such other actions within the guidelines set forth in the "Procedures Manual", as the police officer deems reasonably necessary in order to fulfill the objectives set forth in the "Procedures Manual".
• Performs all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or to others.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

• Supervise police personnel and security personnel assigned

• District vehicles, firearms, handcuffs, alarm systems, security equipment, personal computer, typewriter, and copier
