Qualifications:
To successfully lead the curriculum, instruction, assessment and professional learning in our district, candidates must meet specific requirements and possess preferred qualifications that demonstrate the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for this vital role.
Education and Experience
Must hold a Michigan School Administrator Certificate, or the ability to obtain one.
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate.
Masters Degree in Educational Administration or Curriculum & Instruction or related field.
Satisfactorily pass a criminal background check as defined by the State of Michigan.
Five years of certified teaching experience.
Demonstrated experience in school improvement, preferred experience with the Michigan Integrated Continuous Improvement Process (MICIP)
Understanding of state and federal budgets and their implications for the general fund, preferred experience working in state dashboards (i.e. NexSys, MEGS+, GEMS/MARS)
Demonstrated knowledge of assessment and its relationship to curriculum and instruction.
Expertise in implementing evidence-based literacy and math interventions for struggling learners.
Demonstrated leadership in the ability to communicate a clear vision and to work cooperatively with colleagues to attain that vision.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage many projects simultaneously.
Experience in supervising and evaluating employees.
Understanding technology and its application to instructional programs of the school District.
Understanding of systemic processes and how to implement them.
Duties & Responsibilities:

Core Leadership & Instructional Oversight
Strategic Vision: Provides the vision and strategic direction for the district’s curriculum, instruction, assessment, and school improvement initiatives. Directs the operation, planning, development, and improvement of all central office programs to support the district's mission.
Curriculum & Program Development: Plans, administers, and evaluates a district-wide PK-12 curriculum review and development program, including creating new courses and ensuring seamless program transitions between grade levels and schools.
- Instructional Leadership: Evaluates and improves instructional methods and programs. Leads the district's Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) program and stays informed on educational research to advise the Superintendent.
Professional Development & Coaching: Develops and oversees professional learning programs for teachers and leaders. Supervises all district coaches and guides them in their roles.
Assessment & Data Analysis: Coordinates district-wide research and testing. Analyzes data from assessments (e.g., M-STEP, PSAT) to inform instructional decisions and identify student needs.
State and Federal Programs: Coordinates district Continuous Improvement, with data collection and budget alignment. Monitors allocations and spending of grant funds and the alignment of the funds to the district strategic plan and building improvement plans using the Michigan Integrated Continuous Improvement Process (MICIP)
Special Populations: Oversees district initiatives and strategic funding for special populations such as English Learners, 31a At-Risk students, etc.
Management & Operations
Personnel Management: Assists in recruiting and screening qualified teaching candidates. Utilizes rater reliability in teacher evaluations and supervises direct reports, including principals and curriculum leaders.
Budget & Resources: Collaboratively develops and administers departmental and grant-funded budgets. Oversees the allocation, selection, and maintenance of all instructional materials and technology.
Technology & Pupil Accounting: Supervises the technology department, ensuring alignment with instructional goals. Oversees the pupil accounting department, ensuring compliance with state regulations and monitoring student enrollment and attendance.
State & Federal Programs: Monitors all state and federal programs and ensures compliance with regulations. Establishes and reviews grant budgets and submits grant applications.
School Improvement & Compliance: Coordinates the development and review of School Improvement Plans (SIPs) and the District Improvement Plan (DIP). Ensures compliance with all district, state, and federal laws and policies.
Community & Board Relations
Board & District Engagement: Attends Board of Education meetings as directed by the superintendent. Represents the district at appropriate meetings and conferences.
Partnerships & Communication: Fosters partnerships with educational and community organizations. Maintains positive relationships with diverse stakeholders, including students, staff, and families.
Equity & Inclusion: Commits to honoring all staff and students and addressing matters of equity, race, and bias in decision-making. Designs opportunities to empower students, staff, and parents to be involved in the school culture.
Professional Conduct
Confidentiality & Ethics: Keeps all personal, student, and personnel records confidential. Adheres to and implements all district policies and procedures.
Reporting: Prepares and submits all required state and federal reports. Serves as a mandated reporter for child abuse and neglect.
Attendance: Maintains regular and reliable attendance as an essential job function.
