About the Role:

The Store Clerk at Richardson Hospice Resale Store (RHRS) plays a vital role in supporting the mission of providing compassionate care through the operation of a community resale store. We are looking for someone to work casually, as needed. The store operating hours are 8:30 am -5:30 pm M-F and will require a rotating Saturday. 

This position is responsible for ensuring a welcoming and organized retail environment that maximizes customer satisfaction and supports the financial goals of the hospice services. The Store Clerk will manage daily sales transactions, maintain inventory accuracy, and assist with the intake and processing of donated goods. By delivering excellent customer service and maintaining store standards, the clerk helps foster community engagement and promotes the hospice’s values. Ultimately, this role contributes directly to the sustainability of hospice care programs by generating revenue through retail operations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic math skills and experience handling cash transactions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with customers and team members.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks such as lifting and organizing merchandise.
  • Reliable and punctual with a commitment to maintaining a professional work environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous retail or customer service experience, preferably in a nonprofit or healthcare-related setting.
  • Familiarity with point-of-sale systems and inventory management software.
  • Knowledge of hospice care services and the mission.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working with volunteers and community members.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet and assist customers in a friendly and professional manner, providing information about products and store policies.
  • Process sales transactions accurately using the point-of-sale system and handle cash, credit, and other payment methods securely.
  • Receive, sort, and price donated items in accordance with store guidelines to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and visual appeal of the sales floor and storage areas to enhance the shopping experience.
  • Assist with inventory management, including stock replenishment, record keeping, and reporting discrepancies to management.
  • Support store opening and closing procedures, including cash reconciliation and securing the premises.
  • Collaborate with team members and volunteers to achieve store goals and uphold the mission of Richardson Hospice.

The Store Clerk utilizes strong communication skills daily to engage with customers, answer questions, and provide a positive shopping experience that reflects the values of Richardson Hospice. Attention to detail is essential when processing transactions, pricing donated items, and maintaining accurate inventory records to ensure operational efficiency. Physical stamina and organizational skills are applied to manage merchandise flow, maintain store appearance, and support logistical tasks. Problem-solving abilities help address customer concerns and resolve discrepancies in sales or inventory promptly. Additionally, teamwork and adaptability are important as the clerk collaborates with staff and volunteers to meet store objectives and support the broader hospice mission.
