Job Summary
The prime function of this position is to provide support to the supply chain though safely collecting, loading, shipping and receiving warehouse products. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating technical equipment, optimizing loading for efficient logistics and supporting other warehouse functions to ensure optimal operation of the business. Candidates are responsible for operating a forklift SAFELY and move manufactured parts throughout the facility. There will be physical lifting of manufacturing merchandise that weighs up to 50 lbs. The ideal candidate for this position will be motivated to stay and grow with Palmetto Gourmet Foods for years to come. Flexibility with schedules, work days, and shift preference is required.
Job Title: CDL Driver (Short Haul)
Location: Saluda, SC and extended locations as needed
Job Type: Full-time
Schedule: Daytime hours, typically between 8 AM-5pm but could vary dependent upon business needs
Responsibilities:
- Operate and drive primarily straight trucks for local routes and short interurban trips.
- Perform pre-trip, enroute, and post-trip inspections of the vehicle, ensuring equipment is in good condition per DOT Regulations.
- Safely load and unload cargo
- Safely use pallet jacks as well as be forklift certified
- Operate a forklift to support warehouse operations, including loading and unloading trailers, moving goods to storage or staging areas, and assisting with material flow within the facility.
- Work closely with the warehouse team to maintain organization, support production needs, and ensure timely movement of goods.
- Plan efficient routes using GPS systems.
- Deliver goods to internal or external clients within specified timeframes.
- Maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor with customers.
- Keep accurate records of driving hours, activities, and maintenance tasks.
- Comply with federal and state laws regarding commercial driving.
- Assist Warehouse operations as needed to include inventory control
- Follow safety protocols and company SOPs when handling materials, securing loads, and working around other equipment or personnel.
- Provide hands-on help during peak warehouse hours, including assisting with receiving, staging, and preparing shipments.
Qualifications:
- Valid Class A CDL.
- Maintain a valid DOT medical certificate
- Ability to participate & comply with random CDL driver drug screening pool
- At least 2+ years of tractor-trailer experience
- Safe driving history: No moving violations, accidents, suspensions or DUI’s in the past 1 year. No more than 3 moving violations or accidents in the past 3 years. No DUI’s or Suspensions in the past 5 years.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Ability to operate within a 150 air-mile radius of the normal work reporting location.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2+ years’ experience operating powered forklifts.
- Attention to detail.
- Familiarity with industrial equipment.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work well with others in a team environment.
- Problems solving skills.
- Knowledge of various material-handling equipment an asset
- Proficient in mathematics
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. frequently during shift.
- Bending, stooping, standing, walking, and climbing throughout the shift.
- Forklift certified or ability to be certified in the first 30 days of employment
