About the Department

Under the direction of the Director of Special Education- Ancillary Services, the Special Education Ancillary Lead for Ancillary Services is responsible for overseeing and coordinating support services that supplement the educational experience of students with special needs. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure the effective delivery of ancillary services, compliance with special education laws, and continuous improvement of service quality.

Position Duties

Assist in facilitating professional development in the areas of ancillary services for special education staff,  ancillary service providers, teachers, instructional assistants, administrators, and others associated with special education.

Assist in developing and implementing policies, procedures, and systems to ensure compliance with all relevant special education laws, regulations, and guidelines.

Support regular audits and reviews of ancillary services programs, documentation, and processes to identify areas of non-compliance and recommend corrective actions.

Assist in monitoring and evaluating the delivery of services provided by occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, and social workers to ensure high-quality and effective interventions.

Assist in monitoring documentation of services rendered by all ancillary service personnel.

Assist in facilitating scheduling and caseload assignments for ancillary service providers to optimize efficiency and meet student needs.

Assist in monitoring changes in special education laws and regulations and communicate updates to relevant stakeholders.

Collaborate with district leadership, school administrators, and special education staff to support the evaluation of the effectiveness of ancillary services.

Assist in collecting and analyzing data related to student outcomes, program performance, and compliance indicators to identify areas for improvement.

Help develop and implement action plans to address identified needs and enhance the quality and effectiveness of ancillary services.

Work closely with service providers, including speech therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and social workers, to Facilitate comprehensive support for students.

Foster strong relationships with parents, caregivers, and external agencies to ensure a holistic approach to student support.

Assist in serving as a point of contact for queries and concerns regarding ancillary services, ensuring timely and effective communication.

Stay informed about best practices and emerging trends in special education and ancillary services.

Assist in budgeting and resource allocation to ensure that ancillary services are adequately funded and staffed.

Assist in the procurement and maintenance of specialized equipment and materials necessary for ancillary services.

Consult with school staff, including teachers and administrators, on special education instructional matters.

Establish and maintain open lines of communication with parents when responding to concerns regarding a student's progress.

Assist in budgeting and resource allocation to ensure that ancillary services are adequately funded and staffed.

Assist in the procurement and maintenance of specialized equipment and materials necessary for ancillary services.

Assist in coordinating and facilitating Extended School Year (ESY) and/or any other summer   programs implementing related services.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Master’s degree in Special Education, Education Administration, or a related field 
  • Certification in Special Education or related areas.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in special education or related field, with a focus on ancillary services
  • Minimum three years coordinating and facilitating professional development activities

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Ancillary field  NM License
  • New Mexico PED License

Other Qualifications

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.   Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

WORK ENVIRONMENT 
The Special Education Facilitator for Ancillary Services will work in an office setting within a school district, with occasional travel to various school sites. This role may require attendance at meetings and training sessions outside of regular work hours.
