GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to provide groundskeeping, landscaping, and related maintenance and custodial services for the County’s buildings and grounds. This position typically performs a variety of tasks, which may include any combination of the following: sod laying, mowing, trimming, planting, watering, fertilizing, transplanting, weeding, thinning, pruning, digging, and raking.

· Maintains grounds of property utilizing hand or power tools or equipment.
· Manually plants and cultivates horticultural specialties.
· Clears debris, brush, and other obstructions.
· Applies fertilizers and pesticides as needed.
· Performs custodial services of buildings if needed.
· Evaluates status of equipment and facilities, and schedules needed repairs or replacement.
· Supervises inmates from the detention center and/or individuals performing community/volunteer services on landscaping projects if needed.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of general landscaping techniques.
Knowledge of general lawn maintenance and custodial procedures.
Knowledge of County guidelines and procedures.
Ability to operate all groundskeeping and related equipment.
Ability to use hand tools, such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, and knives.
Ability to operate cleaning tools, accessories and equipment.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Knowledge of cleaning materials and methods for proper use of chemicals and materials.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to prioritize tasks.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or equivalent, and two (2) years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
Required: Valid driver's license.
Preferred: None.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is heavy work which requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. This position has the following special vision requirements: close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more); color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors); peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up or down and to the left and right when vision is fixed on a given point); depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships); adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a demanding indoor and/or outdoor work environment; may encounter noise, weather, extreme temperatures, moisture, humidity, dust, odors, fumes, gases, poor ventilation, vibration, electrical hazards, chemical hazards, or bio-hazardous waste. In the performance of their duties, employees may be required to use personal protective equipment such as face masks, goggles, boots, gloves or eye shields.
