About the Department
Position Duties
The natural resource aide will plant native vegetation, conduct prescribed burns, control brush and invasive species, mow, and apply herbicide. Other tasks include: harvesting prairie seed, using chainsaws, maintaining tools, equipment, and facilities, and performing general maintenance. The natural resource aide must maintain working relationships with the public and other employees.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must be a current ISU student, at least 18 years of age, and have a current, valid driver's license. Skills to understand and recognize Iowa's native flora and fauna are desired.
New employees will undergo a background check in reference to their driving record and a pre-employment drug screen. Work entails daily outdoor physical labor for extended periods of time in all weather conditions.
Additional Requirements: provide own transportation to Hickory Grove Park and occasionally to work sites, purchase and wear OSHA approved safety-toed footwear, be available to work M-F between the hours of 7:00 – 3:30 with occasional evening and weekend duties. Having the ability to work 1-2 eight hour days is preferred.
