Audubon is currently seeking a Shop Technician / Assembler to join our team in Ludington Michigan. The Shop Technician / Assembler will be responsible for assembling, maintaining, and testing industrial water treatment equipment and its components as specified by our customers and engineering teams. The Shop Technician will utilize a variety of shop techniques, including equipment operation, threading, plumbing, constructing, and hydro-testing, and will be tasked with selecting, setting up, and maintaining the necessary equipment to complete each project. In addition to shop duties, the role will involve reading and interpreting blueprints and specifications, performing layout and assembly of equipment/fittings, and ensuring that all work adheres to safety and quality standards.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Actively participates in company hazard identification and observation programs, and immediately reports any unsafe acts, conditions, or incidents to your supervisor.
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, and specifications to accurately assemble components.
- Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points for assembly.
- Perform layout, fit-up, and assembly of equipment.
- Operate hand tools and shop equipment including grinders, pipe threaders.
- Maintain shop, tools, equipment, and vehicles to ensure they are in proper working condition.
- Operate material handling equipment such as forklifts and overhead cranes.
- Ensure project quality by performing QA/QC procedures to meet established standards.
- Request and maintain an inventory of necessary tools and supplies to support ongoing projects.
- Transport tools, equipment, and supplies to job sites to ensure availability when needed.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and clients to ensure clear understanding of tasks and expectations.
- Coordinate with Operations and other trades to ensure the efficient completion of projects/work orders.
- Assist other trades personnel as needed to support the completion of work activities.
- Be prepared to assist local clients in the field, including providing your own field service gear such as steel-toed boots, fire-resistant clothing, welding hoods, and safety equipment.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience with equipment inspection or QA/QC procedures.
- Experience working in industrial or heavy manufacturing environments.
- Working knowledge of water treatment components
- Mechanically inclined and experienced with pumps, hoses, meters, valves, and filtration media
- Ability to read and interpret ISO standards and material take-offs.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 5 years of plumbing or heavy shop experience, preferably in a non-production line manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to comply with designated production procedures and safety regulations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of safety hazards and ability to take corrective action to ensure a safe work environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds as required.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and on elevated surfaces when necessary.
