- Position Summary
The Chaminade University Counseling Center is seeking compassionate, motivated undergraduate student interns to serve as Peer Mentors and Student Workers for the 2025–2026 academic year. This paid position offers hands-on experience in mental health support, outreach, and program development for students interested in psychology, counseling, social services, education, or wellness.
Interns will work closely with licensed mental health professionals to promote a healthier, more resilient campus. The role includes direct peer mentoring, clinical support exposure, outreach, service learning, and the opportunity to earn the NASPA Certified Peer Educator credential—a nationally recognized certification in higher education.

- Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Peer Support & Mentorship
- Offer empathetic, nonjudgmental support to students navigating academic stress, personal challenges, or life transitions.
- Provide one-on-one check-ins to promote well-being, personal growth, and connection to resources.
- Encourage healthy coping strategies, emotional regulation, and self-care practices.
- Maintain professional boundaries and ensure confidentiality.
- Outreach, Presentations & Campus Engagement
- Plan and lead wellness workshops, classroom presentations, and mental health awareness events.
- Present on topics such as emotional intelligence, stress management, identity development, and healthy communication.
- Represent the Counseling Center at tabling events, campus fairs, and class visits.
- Program Development & Research
- Collaborate on trauma-informed and culturally responsive resources for students.
- Create wellness tools such as affirmation decks, peer support guides, and couples counseling cards.
- Assist in program evaluation and needs assessments to improve services.
- Service Project Leadership
- Coordinate service-learning projects in collaboration with nonprofit and community partners.
- Organize logistics, participation, and end-of-semester project presentations.
- Clinical Administrative Support
- Learn the basics of counseling center operations, including documentation practices and ethical standards.
- Support intern program coordination through organizing materials, tracking schedules, and maintaining spreadsheets.
- Intern Recruitment & Team Development
- Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and training for future interns.
- Design promotional materials and contribute to building intern community and cohesion.
- Training, Supervision & Professional Development
- Attend mandatory weekly intern class meetings and trainings.
- Engage in reflective journaling, professional development sessions, and feedback-based learning.
- Participate in optional graduate-level clinical trainings.

- Physical Requirements
Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills. Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.
- Other Requirements:
- This is a Part-time Non-Exempt Student Worker position. Depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required. Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends and a varying schedule.
