Key responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive OHS policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and industry standards.
  • Lead the OHS team in conducting regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and liabilities and develop effective corrective actions.
  • Design, develop, and deliver engaging and informative OHS training programs for all employees, including new hire orientation, ongoing safety certifications, and specialized training as needed.
  • Oversee the incident management process, including investigating incidents, near misses, and injuries, determining root causes, and implementing preventative measures.
  • Collaborate with various departments, including Operations, HR, and project management teams, to integrate safety into all business processes and foster a proactive safety culture.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for external safety agencies, auditors, and regulatory bodies, ensuring compliance with all reporting and documentation requirements.
  • Track and analyze OHS performance metrics, identifying trends and opportunities for continuous improvement, and preparing regular reports for leadership and regulatory agencies.
  • Develop and manage the OHS budget, ensuring efficient utilization of resources and appropriate allocation of funds.
  • Coordinate and monitor Annual Hoist Inspections.
  • Stay up to date on current and emerging OHS regulations, best practices, and technologies, and recommend innovative solutions to enhance safety performance.
  • Manage and mentor a team of OHS professionals, providing leadership, guidance, performance evaluations, and opportunities for professional development.

Qualifications and skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, or a related field; a Master's degree or professional certifications like Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is preferred.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in OHS management, demonstrating a proven track record of developing and implementing successful safety programs in a complex environment.
  • OSHA 501 certification as a General Industry Safety and Health Trainer preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and other relevant federal, state, and local safety regulations, standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data, identify root causes of incidents, and develop practical solutions.
  • Proficiency in OHS management software and tools for incident reporting, tracking, and data analysis.

Testing:

 

  • Drug screening, as permitted by, and consistent with, applicable law.

 

Physical Requirements:   

 

Persons performing service in this position classification may routinely exert up to 50 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. This type of work will involve regular walking or standing for extended periods of time. It may involve stooping or bending. Handling and working with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.
