Position Title: Band Music Teacher (Grades 4–7)

Reports To: Building Principals and Supervisor of Fine and Performing Arts
Location: Elementary and Middle School (Grades 4–7)
Employment Type: Full-Time, Tenure Track
Salary: As per the negotiated agreement

Position Summary:

The Hasbrouck Heights School District is seeking a dynamic and passionate Band Music Teacher to provide instrumental music instruction to students in grades 4 through 7. The ideal candidate will inspire students to develop an appreciation for music, foster technical skills on band instruments, and support the overall music program within both the elementary and middle school settings. This role is integral in cultivating musical growth, performance experience, and a positive learning environment for young musicians.

Responsibilities:

• Provide engaging and developmentally appropriate instruction in instrumental music for students in grades 4–7.

• Teach group lessons and full band rehearsals, introducing and developing technical and musical skills.

• Prepare students for performances, concerts, and school-related events throughout the academic year.

• Collaborate with school staff to align music instruction with district curriculum and educational standards.

• Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and instrument inventory.

• Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student growth and program goals.

• Foster a classroom culture of respect, creativity, and enthusiasm for music.

• Attend faculty meetings, professional development, and school functions as required.

• Support interdisciplinary learning and contribute to the broader school community.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.

• Valid New Jersey Teacher of Music Certification.

• Experience teaching band instruments and leading student ensembles, preferably at the elementary or middle school level.

• Strong classroom management and communication skills.

• Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.

• Passion for music education and a commitment to student growth and success.
