JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: LITTLE BRONCOS ASSISTANT
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must hold a valid Illinois Paraprofessional License (required)
Illinois Substitute Teaching License (preferred)
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Ed. or related field preferred or a minimum of 30 hours college credit with a minimum of 3 years experience in an early childhood educational setting.
At least 1 year of experience in an early childhood educational setting.
Current CPR/AED certification and First Aid Training.
Able to demonstrate patience, encouragement, and a positive attitude when interacting with young children.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with all staff and the public.
Proficient in computer or digitized equipment related to the position/job.
Demonstrates proficient use of the English language in written and oral forms.
REPORTS TO: Life Skills Department Chair, Director or Assistant Director of District 220 Little Broncos Day School
SUPERVISES: Paid student interns and all other high school students
POSITION SUMMARY: To assist in the development and operation of a day school for children ages 3-5.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Follow safe and sanitary guidelines for preparing food service.
2. Contribute to a developmentally appropriate classroom environment suitable to the learning needs of the students.
3. Perform opening/closing procedures for Day School as scheduled.
4. Understands and addresses safety concerns related to the school environment.
5. Maintain confidentiality for all families, stuff, and students.
6. Perform other tasks and responsibilities assigned by the Director or Assistant Director.
7. Collaborate with BHS Early Childhood/Preschool teacher to provide mentoring to high school students.
8. Assist in coordination of parent programs.
9. Marketing of Little Broncos program, including speaking with prospective families and assisting with registration/enrollment.
10. Work in conjunction with Director and Assistant Director to coordinate and implement Day School curriculum.
11. Assume responsibilities of the Assistant Director in the absence of the Assistant Director.
12. Mentor and supervise high school students involved in the center as volunteers, PE leaders, students in Special Services, classroom aides, and student interns.
13. Provide direct daily care to preschool students, including safety, wellbeing and educational needs.
14. Participate in evaluation and assessment of preschool children regarding curriculum and education and use this information to establish goals for developing individual and classroom goals. Communicate and work with parents on their child’s individual goal.
15. Perform first aid to preschool students in need and accurately document incident and accident reports.
16. Make appropriate assessments and referrals for suspected abuse/neglect as a mandated reporter.
PHYSICAL CONTEXT OF THE JOB: This job may require the following: spending a portion of each day outdoors on the playground in a variety of weather conditions; occasional lifting of weights up to 50 lbs., able to walk and stand for extended periods of time, kneeling and crouching, kitchen and food prep, and assisting preschool children with toileting procedures as needed.
GENERAL COMMENTS: This job entails working with the unique characteristics and needs of children ages 3 - Kindergarten.
