Position Summary

The Press 1st Helper sets up and helps operate the printing press to print designs or lettering on corrugates sheets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Visually checks stock according to Factory Order specifications (Color, Flute, and Scoring)
  • Measure and record caliper on Factory Order
  • Sets gates, side guides, kicker, backstop, scores and slotters section, head knives, pull rolls, stacker, and lay boy as needed per the Factory Order
  • Runs set-up carton and makes necessary adjustments to achieve conforming carton
  • Runs orders
  • Observes all safety policies and procedures, including Lock-Out-Tag-Out rules
  • Ability to work in excess of 40 hours, as business needs arise
  • Regular and reliable attendance
  • Any other task or duty that is deemed necessary by management.

Work Environment / Physical Demands 

  • Fast paced environment, requiring adaptation to continuous changes in Company, Customer and People needs
  • Ability to frequently stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch; talk and hear
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception
  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts
  • Exposure to a loud environment
  • Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions and fumes or airborne particles

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • GED or high school diploma, 1-3 months experience or combination of education and experience
