About the Department
The High School Career Coach will be primarily based in area high schools and report to the Associate Dean of Educational Partnerships and Pathways. The High School Career Coach will empower students to make informed decisions regarding career and educational planning by providing guidance, resources, and support that lead to increased enrollment, credential attainment, and seamless transition to postsecondary education or training. This role also plays a critical part in advancing the College’s strategic goals related to access, student success, and K-12 partnerships.
Position Duties
Advising and Student Support
- Provide individualized academic and career planning services for high school students aligned with CCP pathways and postsecondary credentials.
- Assist students in exploring and understanding career options, including nontraditional fields, in alignment with their academic performance and goals.
- Track student academic performance in dual enrollment courses and provide early intervention when students are identified as at risk.
- Develop Academic Success Plans for students placed on academic probation or suspension and monitor progress.
- Support students and families in navigating the transition from high school to college, including application, orientation, and enrollment processes.
- Work collaboratively with high school counselors, Career Development Coordinators, and RCC departments to support student advising and career readiness initiatives.
- Attend school and district-level staff meetings, student events, and parent sessions to promote college and career pathways.
- Lead classroom presentations and host informational sessions to promote RCC programs, including articulated credit and dual enrollment, and support career-related tasks such as resume writing, Career Development Plans (CDPs), and interview preparation.
- Participate in high school tours and industry-focused exploration days.
- Maintain accurate student records for advising and reporting; if grant-funded, regularly update NC ServiceNow or other required databases.
- Assist with state reporting and institutional data collection efforts related to student success and program effectiveness.
- Communicate key deadlines, textbook needs, and academic alerts with relevant RCC and high school staff.
- Participate in RCC team meetings, professional development, and college-wide initiatives related to student success and equity.
- Coordinate with the Associate Dean of Educational Partnerships and Pathways to ensure alignment with RCC goals and best practices.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, human services, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution
- Two years’ experience working in a public high school or a postsecondary institution
- Demonstrated experience advising high school or postsecondary students in academic or career planning contexts
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships within an educational setting; plan, organize, and implement programs and services; and provide tracking and assessment to ensure quality
- Master’s degree in counseling, education, human services, or a related field
- Two years’ demonstrated experience advising high school students in academic or career planning contexts
- Familiarity with North Carolina Career and College Promise (CCP) program, Perkins V special populations, or related educational initiatives
- Familiarity with, or willingness to learn about, Infinite Campus, PowerSchool, or other SIS platforms used by partnering high schools

- Annually review all Randolph Community College safety rules and policies and be familiar with all emergency safety procedures.
- Promote good safety habits and be compliant with OSHA safety regulations.
