Job Summary
Key Responsibilities
- Discussing with patient estimated patient responsibility via telephone - their responsibility and procedure cost information obtained from insurance benefit verification and payment options determined with procedure cost template. Must have a friendly attitude with patients on the phone.
- Assess and track patient’s hesitancy for scheduling and/or cancelations reasons and implement consultative selling skills to retain (20%) & obtain (80%) appointments.
- Receive and process procedure order forms submitted by internal providers after surgery consults via patient chart in EMR.
- Verify patient insurance benefits and patient cost estimates.
- Communicate with insurance carriers using proper procedure CPT and diagnosis codes for specific procedure(s) ordered by provider.
- Obtain prior authorizations from insurance carriers and relay such authorizations (or denials) to the patient and document into patient chart in EMR and procedure tracking spreadsheets.
- Calculate procedure cost estimates using appropriate fee schedules.
- Collecting surgical out of pocket cost estimates and set up payment plans when needed.
- Professional communication with providers and/or anesthesia groups.
- Resolve pre-authorization, registration or other referral related issues prior to a patient's appointment.
- Communicate to the patient surgical information, all necessary preparation. I.e.: procedure date, arrival time, pre and post op directions to prep the patient.
- Demonstrates an understanding of patient confidentiality to protect the patient and clinic.
- Follows policies and procedures to contribute to the efficiency of the surgery scheduling position while following HIPAA guidelines.
- Assists Accounts Receivable team with resolving rejected, incorrectly paid, and/or denied claims.
- Work to collect payment on outstanding procedure balances.
- Organize and work with others to maintain patient files.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Spanish speaking is a plus
- Must have great attention to detail
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Ability to demonstrate exceptional customer service skills
- Ability to finish assigned duties in a timely manner, with minimal supervision
- Self-starter, motivated to complete additional duties when time allows
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive patient information
- Ability to communicate effectively on the telephone
- Ability to work well with others and responds cooperatively to supervision and feedback
Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience as a surgery scheduler
- At least 2 years of customer service experience, in related field
- High School Diploma or higher
