Caprock Academy is seeking a Human Resources Manager. Caprock Academy is a public, tuition-free school chartered by the Colorado Charter School Institute and utilizes the timeless principles of classically oriented education. As a person integral to Caprock Academy’s team, the Human Resources Manager will maintain the integrity of, advocate for, and facilitate the implementation of Caprock Academy’s Vision, Mission, and Core Values of character, accountability and academics.


Caprock Academy follows the Core Knowledge© curriculum in grades K–8. This curriculum encompasses language arts, mathematics, science, history, geography, fine arts, and physical education. The curriculum is characterized by content-rich instruction, cumulative knowledge, content-specific lessons, and coherent sequencing. The foundation of our academics are rooted in classical education philosophy and pedagogy, following the grammar, logic and rhetoric trivium. The Human Resources Manager shall report to the Head of School. As a person integral to Caprock Academy’s administrative team, the Human Resources Manager will maintain the integrity of, advocate for, and facilitate the implementation of Caprock Academy’s Vision, Mission, and Core Values at all times. The Human Resources Manager provides management-level leadership and guidance to the Agency’s HR functions, in addition to performing all of the day-to-day HR functions. The Human Resources Manager is responsible for talent acquisition, diversity initiatives, internal staffing, on-boarding, conditions of employment, retention of staff, benefits, health management programming, performance appraisals, and setting, enforcing, and evaluating legally compliant human resources policies, procedures, and best practices.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Regular, full-time

CONTRACTED DAYS: 213

WORK HOURS: 40 hours per week

PAY RANGE: Hiring salary $48,000 - $58,000 depending on experience and education

REPORTS TO: Head of School


Essential Duties:

  1. Collaborates with the Head of School to define the organization’s long-term goals; identifies ways to support this mission through talent management.
  2. Manages all aspects of annual open enrollment for health benefits.
  3. Manages all aspects of liability insurance renewal.
  4. Administers employee health, welfare and retirement plans, which include: a pension plan through the Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA), a 401K Retirement Plan, medical/dental insurance, workers’ compensation, leaves of absence, FAMLI and FMLA.
  5. Acts as liaison between employees and insurance provider(s) to resolve benefit related problems and ensure the effective utilization of plans and positive employee relations.
  6. Researches, develops, and implements competitive compensation, benefits, performance appraisal, and employee incentive programs.
  7. Handles all aspects of payroll, including maintaining proper record-keeping.
  8. Responds to employee relations issues such as employee complaints and harassment allegations, and conducts investigations accordingly.
  9. Works collaboratively with School’s labor counsel on personnel matters, including all disciplinary and termination matters in accordance with School policy.
  10. Manages, tracks, and maintains the confidentiality of all School disciplinary matters.
  11. Maintains all employee personnel files and medical files – ensuring the security and confidentiality of same.
  12. Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  13. Provides resolution of human resource, compensation, and benefits questions, concerns, and issues.
  14. Maintains knowledge of laws, regulations, and best practices in employment law and human resources.
  15. Ensures compliance with employment laws, benefits, insurance, safety, and other laws, regulations, and requirements.
  16. Provides input into the School’s budget planning related to HR staffing and needs.
  17. Maintains appropriate record-keeping to ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations.
  18. Manages and handles the hiring process, including writing job descriptions, placing advertisements, coordinating interviews and participating in the selection process.
  19. Maintains an up-to-date Employee Handbook.
  20. Assists in School and staff training and development efforts.
  21. Coordinates the handling of unemployment compensation matters.
  22. Assists with collective bargaining negotiations and record-keeping of same.
  23. Ensures compliance with I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification; periodically audits Form I-9.
  24. Participates in professional development and networking conferences and events.
  25. Conducts exit interviews to determine reason(s) for separation.
  26. Manages federally issued grants.
  27. Performs other duties as assigned.



Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required (Master’s degree preferred).

At least three years of verifiable human resource experience

Understanding of relevant employment laws and regulations

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Strong decision-making skills and ability to prioritize work duties.

Excellent talent recognition skills.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Strong supervisory and leadership skills.

Familiar with COBRA, ERISA, FMLA, FLSA, ADA, ADEA, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, FCRA, COMPS, as well as all other federal and state employment laws.

Proficient with, but not limited to the following software programs: Microsoft Suites; Word, Excel.

SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP strongly preferred.
