Policing Flagger
This is a special position funded through the MTA’s Light Rail (station cleaning), contract. The Flagger is the person responsible for the safety of all employees while on Light Rail platforms, and track areas. The employee must attend the MTA’s “Track Access Class” and pass their required test(s). The Flagger is responsible for following the “Flagger Procedures” manual, which details all aspects of the position. When flagging duties are not required, the employee assists the crew as a Lead Worker.

Job Responsibilities
- Participate in insuring that supported worker’s rights and dignity are protected, and that they have maximum opportunities to fully participate as a member of the landscape/policing department.
- Participate in the development and implementation of Person-Centered Plans as needed and electronically document as required.
- Complete all agency required trainings for position.
- While on flagging duty, the employee is solely responsible for the safety of all workers and the supervisor on the platform or in the track area.
- Help set the work pace for workers, priority always being safety.
- Will be required to work evenings, weekends, or holidays as required due to work schedule, (including snow removal) or training schedule.
- When flagging duties are not required, the employee assists the crew as a Lead Worker
- Attend all meetings and training courses as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
Required:
- Experience in the field of Policing (outdoor custodial) is helpful. Requires good physical coordination, (i.e. stooping, standing for periods of time) and stamina for working in different weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds, push, pull, and carry a variety of tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Will be required to work in all types of weather conditions year-round.
- Must have reliable transportation
- Must be at least 20 years of age
Preferred:
- Experience working with people with developmental disabilities
- Experience with outdoor work
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
- Some computer skills helpful.
- Outstanding organizational and time management skills necessary.
- Must work effectively within a team environment.
Working Conditions
- Some evenings and weekends are required.
- Some lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Must be available by use of a personal cell phone.
- All work is outdoors year-round. Must be willing and able to work in all weather conditions: heat, cold, rain, and snow.
- Work locations are often in dangerous locations including parking lots, roadways, and commuter rail systems.
