This position is responsible for planning and performing accounting and financial activities which require a comprehensive knowledge of technical accounting procedures, rules, and regulations particularly as they relate to electric and gas utilities. Makes changes in principles, methods, and procedures to improve the techniques used in financial and accounting reporting. Provides advice and guidance to analysts in accounting and personnel in other departments throughout the Company. LI=Hy #INDPPL
Responsibilities:Essential Functions:
- Develops and analyzes highly technical actual and budget financial data on overall corporate activities into usable and practical information for senior management, stockholders, governmental authorities (SEC, PSC, FERC, etc.) and outside agencies (EEI, AGA, financial rating agencies, etc.).
- Maintains close contact with other departments on cost studies, the analysis of actual and forecast information, and provides assistance and direction to accountants in other areas of the Company pertaining to corporate accounting policies and procedures.
- Reviews financial reports produced by Oracle for accuracy and verifies accuracy of work completed by Accounting Analysts I and II.
- Maintains a high level of proficiency and understanding of accounting and financial developments in the SEC, FERC, PSC, and other regulatory and technological areas related to the utility industry.
- Assists in ensuring that the Company accounting practices are in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
- Continually evaluates accounting procedures and aids in decision making policies affecting those procedures to determine more efficient methods of performing duties and responsibilities.
- Assists in training and development of accounting analysts.
- Provides direction on the operation of Oracle to other areas of the Company.
- Reviews progress and evaluates results of others assuring that priorities and schedules are met.
- Develops, prepares, and reviews complicated rate case exhibits used in determining utility revenue requirements and responses to rate case data requests which are of major magnitude or scope.
- Operates with appreciable latitude for unreviewed action or decisions.
- Possesses excellent understanding of the corporate Uniform Systems of Accounts.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
Required Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in accounting or finance.
Required Experience:
- 3+ years experience in accounting.
- Requires strong Excel skills and aptitude for accounting information systems.
- Must have good working knowledge of accounting principles and their applications to the utility industry.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Utility specific accounting experience preferred.
- CPA certification and/or master's degree desirable.
- Ability to perform complex calculations and analysis using Excel, Oracle, Discoverer and OFA.
- Possesses above average interpersonal skills for communicating financial explanation and oral/written information to others, both within and outside the corporation.
- Current working knowledge of accounting rules and regulations, including U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (US GAAP), international accounting standards (IFRS or IAS), tax requirements, SEC requirements, FERC requirements and other reporting requirements is preferred.
