POSITION SUMMARY |
- Provides overall direction for the nursing unit in assessing, implementing, and evaluating patient care. Serves as a liaison to the clinical coordinator or assistant director and unit director.

- Current RN licensure with the State of Texas. Appropriate CPR Certification.
- Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- General knowledge of basic bedside nursing. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on the physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and related criteria appropriate to age of the patients served in assigned area/department. The skills and knowledge to provide such care are gained through education, training, and/or experience.
- Preferred Qualification
- Specialty Certification.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS |
- Must work varied hours and schedules. Requires prolonged walking and standing, frequent bending and/or stooping. May involve lifting or positioning of patients. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. May be exposed to communicable diseases and bodily fluids. Requires ability to sustain concentration in a noisy and fast paced environment. May be exposed to violent or disturbed individuals.

JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS |
- Reinforces HMHD's values, promotes HMHD's Compliance Plan and demonstrates proficiency in understanding of training materials and applicable laws and standards.
- Completes the required corporate integrity and compliance training and education programs and ensures department employees complete their required education (in a timely manner) according to HMHD policies.
- Assists the Compliance Officer and the Executive Compliance Committee in identifying "high risk" issues within his/her department.
- Complies with all HIPAA standards.
- General knowledge of basic bedside nursing. - Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations; calling for assitance from health care support personnel.
- Assists director with prospective new hire interview process.
- Conducts and report to unit director results of bi-weekly shift level meetings.
- Ensures that physician orders are followed. Ensures communication to the physician of the patient's progress, changes in condition, needs and preferences.
- Ensures that nursing personnel administer medication with safety awareness (5 rights) & infractions to peer review as indicated.
- Ensures documentation of the nursing process in the medical record; patient assessment, plan of care, nursing intervention, evaluation of patient response and revision of the plan of care as the needs of the patient change. These plans should be mutually set with patient and family.
- Completes and submits committee event form to unit director regarding medication errors.
- Cooperates in shifting personnel according to staffing and patient needs. Communicates staffing problems and concerns (both too little and too much) to appropriate personnel in a timely manner. Is supportive of management decisions regarding allocation of personnel and has adaptive mechanism in place to provide care with available staff.
