Job Description:


The Nutrition Lab Technician supports the smooth operation of undergraduate nutrition laboratory courses by assisting with lab preparation, setup, cleanup, ordering, and basic inventory management.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Lab Preparation and Setup

o Prepare lab spaces prior to scheduled sessions, including organizing equipment, ensuring cleanliness, and setting up shared and station-specific supplies.

o Coordinate with the Lab Instructor to identify any lab equipment needs and then set up that equipment prior to the lab.

o Assist in preparing student supply bags or station kits for special labs as directed by the instructor.

2. Post-Lab Responsibilities

o Conduct post-lab cleanliness checks, including counters, sinks, stoves, and shared equipment.

o Following the lab, document and report any cleanliness or safety concerns to the course instructor, including labeled photos as needed.

o Assist with the laundry of towels and putting away dishes and equipment, and resetting the lab for the next session.

3. Inventory and Supplies

o Maintain and update the basic supply inventory using existing spreadsheets.

o Place grocery orders through HEB under the supervision of the lab instructor, ensuring the timely availability of ingredients and materials.

o Notify the instructor of any low-stock items or equipment issues.

Qualifications:

· Upper-level undergraduate or master’s student (master’s student preferred).

· Prior experience in laboratory or teaching lab settings is strongly preferred.

· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

· Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and undergraduate students.
