About the Department

Primary responsibility is to assist with supervision, coordination and promotion of the programs and services of the Brooklyn Center Community Center pool operations.

The Aquatics Coordinator has hours set as listed below, with management discretion to change hours based on community pool needs, with advance notice. 
Tuesday – Saturday typical work week
Tuesday - Friday 11:30-8              
Saturday - 8-4:30

Position Duties

  • On-Deck supervision of swim lessons
  • Run 2-3 in-service trainings a month
  • Willingness to cover Lifeguard or WSI shifts as needed
  • Teach 2-3 American Red Cross courses a quarter
  • Assist in the hiring process of aquatic staff, making recommendations for personnel actions as appropriate. 
  • Develop and lead at least 1 main Aquatics Event yearly
  • Attend & work at all Aquatics special events (Flick and Float, Game Night, World's Largest Swim Lesson, Winter Waterland, etc.) and Recreation Department events as needed
  • Consult with Aquatics Supervisor or other officials to review operations/activities, review/resolve problems, receive advice/direction, and provide recommendations.
  • Remain current in all certifications
  • Attend meetings as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or apparent. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification 
  • Lifeguard Instructor Certification (or willing and qualified to obtain)
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Four (4) years of experience as a lifeguard of which two (2) years must be in a supervisory capacity (head guard)
Desired Qualifications
  • Degree in Recreation or Leisure Studies OR comparable work experience
  • Water Safety Instructor Certification 
  • Programming experience
  • Water Aerobics
  • Second language (Spanish, Hmong, Somali)
  • Previous experience working for a Government Recreation Department
