About the Department
Director of Student Services (DSS) of The College of Music & Media is the academic advisor for the college working closely with the dean, associate dean, the assistant dean, school directors, faculty and students. The director of student services handles all probation and exclusion issues that arise with students as well as assists the dean, associate dean and assistant dean in interpreting and implementing academic policies and regulations. The Director of Student Services serves as a liaison between the college, admissions, and student records offices to ensure student success throughout their college careers, including overseeing the implementation of Academic Success classes to all incoming first-year students in conjunction with the Student Success Center as well as developing and revising the curriculum for the class. Additionally, the Director of Student Services maintains, with the associate dean and assistant dean, all student progress records for the College of Music and Media.
Position Duties
- Ensure that the office provides students with the support and services that promote learning and ensure timely completion of their program of study.
- Explore and implement new methods for retention.
- Assists Associate Dean with implementing best advising practices within the College and provides faculty support as needed.
- Serve as academic liaison between college and all other campus departments.
- Oversees student events sponsored by the College Music and Media Dean’s office.
- Assists schools and departments as needed with student-related events and assists student leaders with events as appropriate.
- Work with faculty to recruit and retain students and assists with management of high school recruitment events.
- Assists school directors and chairs with decisions related to class scheduling.
- Oversees all correspondence with new and transfer students.
- Assists the Dean’s office in any necessary student correspondence.
- Consistently updates current student files and notes.
- Works with faculty and students to resolve conflicts.
- Assists with evaluations of transcripts for transfer credit.
- Assists with evaluation of study abroad credit.
- Supervises College of Music and Media academic advisor.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Assists Dean’s Office with all marketing and communications as needed.
- Assists the Dean, Associate Dean and Assistant Dean as deemed necessary
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities:
- Minimum Master’s Degree required in counseling, student services, higher education, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in education administration, preferably in higher education.
- Ability to communicate orally and verbally in a professional manner.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment with several tasks.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
