About the Department
The East Hartford Public Library is seeking a dedicated Part-Time Bilingual Career Coach (Spanish) to provide personalized career support to our community members. This role involves helping participants identify career paths, develop actionable career plans, and create effective job search strategies and application materials.
Position Details:
- Type: Part-time, grant-funded
- Hours: 20-25 hours per week, schedule to be determined with the candidate
- Pay Rate: $30/hour
- Reports To: Head of Workforce Development & Digital Inclusion

Position Duties
- Engage with Spanish-speaking clients, providing career coaching and support.
- Manage client caseloads, including scheduling and referrals.
- Assist clients in creating and refining resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn profiles, and other job search documents.
- Offer one-on-one coaching for interview preparation and job search strategies.
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions and progress using web-based project management tools.
- Contribute to reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with other Town departments, such as Youth and Social Services, for referrals and additional support.
- Participate in professional development and training opportunities.
- Develop programming, outreach, and marketing materials for Spanish-speaking clients.
- Perform additional administrative duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Language Proficiency:Fluency in both Spanish and English (written and verbal).
- Empathy and Patience:Strong empathy, patience, and a passion for helping individuals achieve their career goals.
- Customer Service:Excellent customer service, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- Communication Skills:Strong communication skills, with the ability to build trust with clients from diverse backgrounds while maintaining confidentiality.
- Positive Attitude:A positive attitude, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of humor.
- Problem-Solving:Ability to solve problems creatively, negotiate, and handle stressful situations professionally.
- Boundary Setting:Ability to establish appropriate boundaries with clients.
- Independence and Collaboration:Capability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Case Management Experience:Preferred experience in case management, guidance, mentorship, or coaching/counseling for workforce entry and advancement.
- Program Development Experience:Preferred experience in program and workforce development, including creating individual employment plans.
- Technical Proficiency:Proficiency in MS Office Suite and a willingness to stay current with new technologies and resources.
- Professionalism:Ability to work professionally with library staff, community stakeholders, and the public.
- Job-Seeking Resources:Knowledge of online job-seeking resources and the ability to integrate new tools into practice.
- Additional Qualifications:Other qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Town of East Hartford.
Other Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, Career Counseling, Social Work, Education, Psychology, or a related field.
- Relevant certifications in career coaching, counseling, or workforce development are advantageous.
Experience:
- Preferred experience in case management, guidance, mentorship, or coaching/counseling for individuals entering and advancing in the workforce.
- Experience in program and workforce development, including creating individual employment plans.
- Relevant Certifications: Certifications in career coaching, counseling, or workforce development can be advantageous.
