Momentum’s Yoga Instructors are responsible for providing inviting, balanced yoga classes of all levels for its members and the community. Yoga has long been understood to be an important aspect of training and recovery for climbers and other athletes. Momentum is among the top training facilities in the nation, and the yoga program is integral to that training. Momentum Yoga Instructors are versatile teachers who understand the climbing community and its yoga/wellness needs.
Requirements
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching
- Teach 1 or more yoga classes per week for regular teacher on the schedule.
- If being hired as sub, pick up 1 class every 2 months minimum.
- Sub classes when available
- Get to know other teachers and their classes to be able to speak about them to students and Momentum staff.
- Using the provided sub/teacher list, find subs for classes a minimum of two weeks in advance. When last-minute subs are needed, work with the yoga manager to find a sub.
- Organize props that are used during class.
Customer Service and Facility Obligations
- Help maintain the organization and cleanliness of the yoga room by organizing props after use, and running a broom over the floor when needed.
- Follow the organization standard set by the program manager.
- Communicate the needs of the students and the space to the program manager.
- When able to, answer questions from students about the yoga classes, the benefits of yoga, and which classes might best support their needs. Pass along any questions you can’t answer to the program manager.
REQUIREMENTS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Hours and Availability
- Teach a minimum of 1 hour of yoga classes per week and/or sub a minimum of 1 class every 6 months.
- Teachers are scheduled and approved to clock in 15 minutes before and out 15 minutes after class.
- Option to teach during special events or workshops that are scheduled outside of regularly scheduled class times.
- Availability to sub at times that are different than your regularly scheduled class/es
- While this is a gym-specific role, the instructor would be eligible to sub at other Momentum locations
- Communication with the program manager regarding changes in availability must happen regularly.
Experience, Skills, and Certifications
- 200-hour minimum certificate from a Registered Yoga School (RYS) with the yoga alliance (RYT registry is not required)
- Climbing knowledge is helpful, but not required
- A strong understanding of anatomy and functional movement is preferred
- Appropriate certifications for any styles or topics being taught as agreed upon with the program manager.
- The ability to teach a variety of classes like vinyasa, power, Hatha/alignment, restore or yin, meditation, etc is helpful but not required.
Environmental and Physical Demands
- Work in a loud and high-volume gym environment every shift
- Must be able to safely instruct people in and out of yoga poses using healthy/safe alignment principles.
- Be able to project voice, provide instruction, and give directions to large groups of people (up to 30+ people)
- Be able to instruct for an entire hour or more
- Be able to maneuver stairs to the studio space in some locations (Utah Region)
