POSITION OBJECTIVE:
The Lube & Fuel Technician is responsible for fueling and lubricating heavy equipment, and other machinery to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with preventive maintenance schedules. This role supports field operations and the maintenance shop, helping reduce downtime and extend the life of company equipment. The technician must prioritize safety, timeliness, and accuracy while servicing a large fleet across multiple job sites.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Valid CDL Class B with Hazmat and Tanker Endorsements (preferred or required, depending on state regulation)
- 1–2 years of experience in fueling and lubricating heavy equipment or similar maintenance roles
- Basic mechanical knowledge of heavy equipment and diesel engines
- Must be able to work independently and follow a preventive maintenance schedule
- Clean driving record and ability to pass pre-employment drug and background screening
- Must be able to work nights, weekends, and long shifts as needed
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
- Assist in identifying trends and recommending improvements to enhance fleet safety, efficiency and accuracy
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Drive service truck to various job sites to refuel and lubricate construction equipment
- Check fluid levels, grease machinery, inspect filters, and top off or replace fluids as needed
- Accurately record all service performed, fuel usage, hours, and equipment condition
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of lube truck, ensuring it is stocked with necessary supplies
- Inspect equipment for leaks, safety hazards, and unusual wear and report concerns
- Work with shop personnel to track equipment needing additional repair
- Follow all safety policies, procedures, and traffic laws
- Wear proper PPE and promote safety across all job sites
- Perform routine service on lube truck including oil changes, tire checks, etc.
- Assist with shop duties as needed when not in the field
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 75 lbs. regularly
- Ability to climb on/off large equipment and trucks frequently
- Must be able to work outdoors in extreme heat, cold, and other weather conditions
- Repetitive use of arms, hands, and legs
- Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for long periods
- Visual and hearing ability to safely operate vehicles and assess equipment
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
- Technical aptitude and mechanical skills: A strong understanding of how engines, power trains, hydraulics, and electrical systems work, along with the ability to use various tools and diagnostic equipment, is crucial. This includes proficiency in performing oil changes, replacing filters, lubricating components, and conducting basic inspections.
- Experience: Previous experience in maintenance and repair, especially with diesel and heavy equipment, is required.
- CDL with hazmat endorsement
